Michael was born in 1954 and is now a famous actor who is mostly assosciated with his amazing stage work, but has appeared in several television series including popular hits like The Practice and Lost. Some of his more recent movie credits include his co-star role opposite Antonio Banderas in The Legend of Zorro and Cary Elwes in Saw.
In 1993, he enrolled in the Alabama Shakespeare Festival..'s University of Alabama-sponsored Master of Fine Arts/Professional Actor Training program. After graduation, Emerson returned to New York and appeared in the annual Alabama Shakespeare Festival showcase. He graduated in 1995 from the Professional Actor Training M. F. A. program at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and is also a graduate of Drake University. Previous jobs include freelance illustrator and teacher, which he actually considered being instead of an actor.
Michael Emerson finally got his big break in 1997 when he starred as Oscar Wilde in Moises Kaufman..'s critically-acclaimed off-Broadway play, Gross Indecency: The Trials of Oscar Wilde. All though this was not his first acting position, this was by far his largest acting job and really jumpstarted his acting. In 2001 he won an the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series .."Emmy.." for the portrayal of confessed serial killer William Hinks in .."The Practice..".Michael is currently married to actress Carrie Preston, who he tied the knot with in September of 1998. His most recent work would be on the ABC hit television series Lost where he is the leader of a group of people who we know refer to as .."The Others..".
