Mrs. Joseph's Kitchen

About Me

Mrs. Joseph's Kitchen is the name of my latest project. Formerly performing as Susan Ackerman, I took a long hiatus from my musical endeavors to explore the pleasures of a bourgeoise life style and to raise a family. Now that my teenage children do not need -- or even want -- all of my attention, I am free to resume my musical pursuits with the renewed energy and vigor only middle age can bring.Mrs. Joseph's Kitchen is still in its early stages of development. Since I am starting out with only a voice, some songs, rudimentary instrumental skill and a Fostex VF160, I welcome musicians and producers with whom I can collaborate. Without a preconceived musical niche, the meaning of the songs dictates the mood of the music allowing for limitless creative opportunity. Some might remember me from my early days as "Susan Beef," one of the founding members of The Beef Sisters and a fixture on LA's acoustic scene in the mid-1980's. Subsequently, I played a number of LA venues with my own band under different monikers, most notably "Susan Ackerman and a Fine Band" and "Dr. Bombay." More recently, I have performed with David Shapiro and Haskel Joseph in "Too Darn Hot," an acoustic combo featuring standards and original songs with a jazzy feel. The songs uploaded here are demos I have been working on as I try to figure out how to use the recording unit. Because I am still a newbie with the equipment, sound quality may be lacking -- but the ideas are there for those who care.
