About Me
I Am: A chef, a bagpipe player, Independent, a tomboy, openminded, adventurous, nonjudgemental, "eclectic" or "eccentric" depending on the source, a bit of a glutton, a bit foulmouthed, generally cheerful.
I Can: Cook any dish from any country, Whup ass at scrabble, Read instructions, Recite pages of Tolkein poetry, Play the flute, Do a nice a birl, Nail things together, Lift lots of weight with my legs, Use a topo map, Raise a kitten with a bottle, Grow my own food, Get dirty and not care, Move across the country alone, Slam dance, Support myself, Fix the faucet.
I Can't: Dance, Sing, Get this squish off my butt, Lift weight with my arms, Do anything that requires physical coordination, Resist an animal that needs help, Do a tourluath correctly, or spell it correctly for that matter, Give up that one morning cigarette with my coffee, Jog, Walk in high heels, Make spaghetti with my toes.
I Am Not: In very good shape right now, Religious, Feminine, Maternal, Gay, Highfalutin, Concerned in the slightest about the brand of my "bag".
I Like: My Bagpipes, Animals, Fall, Bread, Traveling, Gardening, Cooking, Eating, Europe, Smartasses, The Ocean, Summer, The Trevi Fountain, Learning, Openminded People, Spring, Reading, Cheese, Jeans That Don't Show Your Crack, Walking My Dog, Sunshine, Hiking, my Doc's, Halloween, Mountains, and lots of other stuff.
I Want To: Go to Thailand, Ireland and Scotland, Ride horses, Teach cooking, Get rid of the squish on my butt, Be coordinated, Keep up with my laundry.
I Wish: Biscotti wouldn't claw my leather shoes, I had unlimited funds, I could go back to school for food journalism, there weren't so many furballs under the furniture, I could get in shape by drinking and sleeping, I had gotten in shape when I was younger, I weren't starting to get wrinkles.
I Don't Like: mosquitos, winter, laundry, uncomfortable shoes, jeans that show your crack, country music, flat tires, running out of coffee, the high price of gas, narrowminded people.
AS OF FEBRURARY 15 2007 I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED THE FOLLOWING: I have ordered a kit with a nice practice chanter and so on, I have removed the furballs from under the furniture, and other stuff. I still have wrinkles, squish on my butt, shredded shoes, and it's freakin cold outside.
AS OF MARCH 7 2007 I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED THE FOLLOWING: I have officially joined the Evansville Pipe Band! I am still keeping up with my laundry, and have purchased two green plants which have not died yet. I still have wrinkles, squish on my butt, and shredded shoes, but at least it's warmer outside.
AS OF MAY 11 2007 I have decided that I really need to update this stuff right here.
AS OF JULY 7 2007 I have had pipes for three weeks and sound like hell but improve every time I pick them up! It's hot as a jungle and I love it. The laundry and furballs have eaten my closet and half my room, I still have squish on my butt, my new Dansko clogs have already been shredded, but the wrinkles look better in the summer and I've lost 10 pounds.
AS OF SEPT 11 2007 Had a great bagpipe vacation in Seattle in August! I now have a kilt and have marched in TWO parades. If Biscotti claws my Ghillies we will be having cat stew. I love fall, but it can be quite poignant. The weather is gorgeous. I don't want to talk about laundry. Or wrinkles for that matter.
AS OF FEB 20, 2008 Jeez, I need to be prompter about this updating thing.
AS OF JUNE 7, 2008 Changed jobs, working later hours and loving it! Still cooking away, it's nice to be back in fine dining. The 10 pounds have come back with 10 more, and my beautiful kilt is riding a bit high so I have to do something about that. Tomorrow. Tonight I invented the best french fry dipping sauce EVER and it will be the hallmark of my eventual burger restaurant so don't pester me for the ingredients. The laundry is fine, and the furball situation is under control. It's hot as a jungle again, and I still love it. My herb garden is huge this year and I have put in a rock garden and a fern garden to boot. The piping is coming along great, although working evenings is cutting into my band practice. If I ever want to play Hellbound Train I need to get on the ball. I'm learning to live with the wrinkles and the squish. Oh well.
AS OF July 31, 2008 Man, this goat cheese is good! *slurp, smack!* Other than that, work is going great after almost three months. I REALLY like being back in a more restaurant-like environment. I ordered some Michigan Button Chanterelles the other day, today got to sample a selection of organic heirloom tomatoes, Sunday am putting Shrimp and Grits on the brunch menu. My garden is fantastic. The Asian beans are 10 feet tall and climbing into the magnolia tree, and the squash is, well, everywhere. I love summer. And last but not least I LOVE my pipe band because they changed practice to Tuesday, so I've been able to be present and that is wonderful.
