Abass Camara is a native of Guniea, West Africa. Growing up in Simbaya, Abass started playing djembe and dunduns at a very young age. He started his professional career with Ballet Hamana when he was 17 years old, playing both djembe and duns. In 2003, Abass and three fellow artists, Mamoudouba "Milla" Sylla, Tiblo Camara and Alaye "Djeliba" Sylla, ventured out and started Ballet Watafre, a ballet based in the Cosa area of Conakry, where Abass was the major musical arrangement as well as played in the ballet.
Along with his playing experience, Abass has been teaching travelers from around the world for 10 years, including students from The United States, England, France, The Netherlands, Germany, Brazil, Finland and Japan. He also has spent a great deal of time training young Guineans to become professional musicians.
New to the United States, Abass is based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is currently teaching and playing in Indiana, Michigan and Illinois.
