Since sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson first showed the world that women can rock when Heart stormed the charts in the 70s with Dreamboat Annie and the hits "Crazy on You" and "Magic Man", they've sold 30 million records, had 21 top 40 hits, sold-out arenas worldwide and inspired a generation of female rockers.Says Ann: "We have a bond between us of not only love but a musical bond that is universal and, I think, pretty timeless. We were one of the first or maybe the first pair of women to come out and just say, well, we don't know the rules so - we're not going to follow them. I think a lot of people want to see what it is that we do that nobody else does."The last decade was marked by diversification and individual achievements as well as 3 Heart albums. After Hearts Brigade opened the decade with the provocative rocker "All I Want to Do Is Make Love to You", which reached No. 2 on the charts and was followed by two more top 25 hits "I Didn't Want to Need You" and "Stranded", they took a break from Heart to launch Lovemongers. Joined in that acoustic quartet by long time songwriting collaborator Sue Ennis and performer Frank Cox, it gave them a chance to return to their club roots and expand their sound beyond the confines of rock with a wide array of instrumentation.Lovemongers started with an impromptu performance at the 1991 Red Cross Concert for Peace. After playing a number of sold-out shows in Seattle and cutting the Led Zeppelin cover Battle of Evermore for the triple platinum soundtrack from the movie Singles, they released a four-song CD on Capitol Records titled Battle of Evermore. Their live rendition of this song was also included on the benefit compilation, The Bridge School Concerts Vol. One, put together by Neil Young. Heart returned in 1993 with Desire Walks On featuring "Back to Avalon". With 1995s The Road Home, Heart enlisted former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones to produce a 15 song live, acoustic CD reprising many of their hits. Then A Greatest Hits album on Sony Legacy in 1998 featured the newly recorded track "Strong, Strong Wind".While working with two bands might have kept most musicians busy, Ann and Nancy also took time to pursue individual solo projects. Ann made her theatrical debut in Teatro ZinZanni-Love, Chaos and Dinner in Seattle and San Francisco. Critics hailed her performance as a highlight of the evening as one review calling her a breathtaking chanteuse dolled up in feathers delivering stunning versions of The Man That Got Away and Where or When dueting with the opera singer and generally just enjoying herself.Nancy turned her attention to film and a solo recording. She scored and wrote 2 songs including the theme We Meet Again for the Oscar winning film Jerry Maguire, written and directed by her husband of the past 16 years, Cameron Crowe. Nancy also composed the entire score and co-wrote 6 original songs for Crowe's highly anticipated Almost Famous opening on September 15. She recorded a solo album, Live at McCabes, (Epic Records 1999). That led to her debut solo tour, which earned praise from The New York Times, among others. In 2004, the band released Jupiter's Darling, their first studio album in 11 years, the latest chapter in the extraordinary saga of the Wilson sisters. Produced by Nancy and featuring 16 riveting selections written primarily by the Wilson sisters, this long-awaited collection of new Heart originals marks a triumphant return to form for a band that, in reality, has never really been away.Throughout their illustrious career, Heart has always made urgent, immediate and compelling music. Simply put, following their creative impulses has made Heart one of the most innovative and enduring musical partnerships of our time.
