In the age of MySpace, YouTube and Chestnut Productions there are no reasons why one shouldn't embrace world music more wholeheartedly. Here are some reasons why you should:
- The mainstream music industry is biased towards geographical position; cities become 'hot pockets' of new music, irrelevant of talent.
- The mainstream music press concentrates on similar-genre artists, whilst the link between tunes and fashion grows more and more.
- The new bands you will get to hear about will be those who pay publicists to get them press.
The modern world is saturated with music, mainly because of the ease at which it can be made and distributed. Music is everywhere, in every country, in every town. Yet, it is not embraced by the mainstream. A group of individuals known as Chestnut Productions set out to bridge the gap between globalism and localism by capturing the state of the ‘Global Local Music Scene’ (GLOCAL). Chestnut Productions have documented the story of 45 artists in six countries over 5 months.
'GLOCAL' is the story of the Global Local Music Scene as told by the artists themselves.
