By taking sounds from Africa, such as african drums, tribal sounds, as well as sampling african music, she pulls apart preconceptions of what R&B and Soul should sound like, pushing the boundaries of these genres into new realms and re-interpreting them by taking them to places they have never been before, to create a vibrant, experimental and a creative sound of her own which stands alone amidst the current trends of the UK music industry today.
Her music both promotes the sounds of Africa whilst balancing it with Western-style production, soulful songs and infectious lyrics to create songs which are fresh, edgy, melodic, dynamic, contemporary, sexy and soulful which can neither be described as ‘African music' nor generic R&B or Soul and brings this cross-over sound into the current UK market to appeal to new audiences who would not readily listen to these types of music.
Coming from a Nigerian background, Delencia spent most of her life in the UK but has always had an affinity with Africa and her culture and heritage.
She has been singing and song-writing since the age of 15, at school she was a keen performer, honing her talent at school productions and singing in the choir as well as at various talent shows in and around London and at her church performing arts group.
Drawing influences from artists as diverse as Eva Cassidy, Whitney Houston, Destiny's Child, Brandy, Angelique Kidjo, India Arie, Mariah Carey, Miriam Makeba, Femi Kuti, Nina Simone and Christina Aguilera, to name but a few.
Delencia has an impressive vocal range and a voice that encompasses power, conviction, soul, energy, emotion and depth and an adept song-writing ability that is poetic, emotive, lyrically exciting and imaginative.
Drawing inspiration from where she comes from as well as the world of art, fashion and dance her artistic vision is quite extraordinary, aiming to create energetic, conceptual, entertaining and visually captivating live shows.
Already having penned an impressive number of songs, Delencia is currently in the studio working on her debut single and album, preparing to unleash her creativity unto the UK music industry.
