Witness is definitely one of the most exciting female groups to watch in concert. This phenomenal group got their start back in 1986 where many talented artists emerged from the city of Detroit, Michigan. Founded by veteran songwriter, producer, keyboardist, extraordinaire Michael A. Brooks one of the original co founders of the legendary award winning group “Commissioned. Brooks known best for hits with Commissioned such as "Love Isn’t Love", "Strange Land", "I’m Going On", "So Good To Know", "Go Tell Somebody" amongst others.
The actual launching of Witness was motivated by Michael A. Brooks as a female version of Commissioned along with (his sister) Tina Brooks was interested in doing a solo project both pulled their ideas together to record as a female group and the ministry of Witness was birthed. Passionate at what they do their existence is to sing by embracing Gods will for their lives. Seasoned now, Witness is definitely not caught up in the hyped you know with a hot beat and a hook but lack substance. Witness rather focuses on “good music that glorifies God”. One reason being is that the music is crafted by Brooks. So the substance is centered on the word of God. They speak to the issues that people deal with on an every day basis through song.
These trendsetters has been a driving force in gospel music for 21 years receiving multiple charts success and radio play list such as "Standard", "Song In The Night", "Get In The Way”, “Old Landmark", “We Give Thanks” and "Resting In Him" etc…just to name a few. These recognitions garnered them (4) Grammy nominations, (2) Dove Award nominations, 1993 Stellar Award win for Best Performance Group/Duo, in 1991 and 1993 (3) GMWA Excellence award wins for Best Group.
With frequent membership changes, four different record companies, setbacks, disappointments and a company folding over the years the signature sound remains most consistent since its existence. Witness has truly endured the test of time. But it's a great experience and a blessing to see people's lives change and to see people grow in the Lord.
