Pope

I first formed in the early eighties, but kind of laboured away in obscurity for the first twenty years or so. I kind of always knew I wanted to work with me but somehow I didn't really get off the ground for some time, managing to come up with little more than fairly tuneless grunts and demands for food. Other members came and went but the core personnel - myself - has remained fairly constant. Indeed, those periods when I temporarily left always resulted in a marked loss of direction and vision - those few tenacious fans will rememeber a particularly dark period in the late nineties during which the stress of creative atrophy caused me to split into various warring factions. Such divisive bickering could not continue unchecked and this phase culminated in a temporary break-up. After some emotional scenes I realised how much I meant to me and got back together. An artistic renaissance has helped heal the rift but working relations between me & myself are still tense. At heart we know that's what keeps us fresh, but is the reconciliation permanent? Time will tell.
