Frequently Asked Questions:
Where did the name 'Penderbrooke' come from and what does it mean?
We got the name from a small neighborhood in Oakton, Virginia, near the old location for my (Joe) church. The name was actually 'Penderbrook', but I didn't really like the spelling, so I just put an 'e' at the end for aesthetic reasons. Our name means that no matter where you are in the world, you're never alone. You always have somebody by your side who truly cares for you.
Does your band play exclusively acoustic stuff?
Nope. In fact, our music was initially written as electric. We only have songs recorded in acoustic because we currently don't have enough money or enough people to record full-band tracks. We will also play acoustic shows whenever no one is available to fill in on certain intruments, but when we do have somebody, hold on to your hats! :D.
I saw that one of your influences is Jesus Christ. Does that mean you guys are a Christian band?
Yes, we are a Christian band, but we don't shove our beliefs down people's throats. Whether you agree with us on what we believe to be the truth or not, we want you to enjoy our music regardless because we always try to keep a positive message in what we write.
Can I play in your band?
Only if you have the qualities that we're looking for in musicianship and personality. We can't accept just anybody into our band. Please see our blog entitled "Looking for Musicians" to see if you fit the criteria. Sorry, it's nothing personal.
How often do you guys play shows?
It depends mostly on the circumstances. We usually don't play a whole lot of shows during the school year because we try to maintain a good education and work schedule. But basically so long as we're available for the date that we're offered, then yes, we'll play that date.
Can I book your band to play a show?
Absolutely, so long as we are available for the date that you offer us. We're available to play basically anywhere in the tri-state area. Just give us the date, address, time of the show, time of our set, who else is playing, and if we get paid or get gas money. We prefer to be paid or get gas money, unless you're a really close friend of ours, then we won't ask you to take that obligation. ;) If you're a booking company that requires bands to sell tickets in advance for a show, we can't guarantee that we'll sell the bare minimum every single time we play for you. If we don't have to sell presales, then it's all good. Hopefully, if we have enough money, we'll be able to go on tour next summer, but only if you can help us out.
How can I help out your band?
It's very simple. You can do any of the following things or all of them if you really love our music: 1) Tell your friends about us by posting bulletins and passing out flyers about us, 2) Talk to people in booking companies and venues and put in a good name for us, so that they can contact us to play a show, 3) Donate money to our band either through attending one of our shows or through our PayPal account, 4) Buy a copy of our acoustic demo for $3 via attending a show or PayPal, 5) Make fan art and send us a photo, 6) Tell promotions companies about us, 7) anything else YOU can think of. Be creative if you like. Heck, even if you don't do any of these things, your accepting our friend request or adding us does us SO much help on it's own.
