Formed in 2004 by two 16 year old school chums, The Isohels became the main focus of attention in the personal lives of Claire and Sadhbh. The two girls had two things in common; naivety and a love of geographical terms, namely those relating to lines on a weather map showing equal areas of sunshine.
A short time after the band began to prosper in its own special way with the addition of Sal Healy ..s and Gill Prenderville on guitar (who infiltrated Claire and Sadhbh's filthy habits to create somewhat of a "cleaner" act).
They began recording their first great masterpieces on a tape recorder in the old garage even capturing authentic farmyard sounds on the tape. They played their first gig at the Bealtaine Festival '05 Newbridge , establishing somewhat of a name for themselves as "those Naas f***ers taking our fellas".
It proved a beneficial endeavor for the band and they began to make the acquaintance of other musicians in the locality and for most of 2005 and 2006 they could be seen or heard in some shape or form in local music venues, streets, alleyways and burlesque houses.
Even with Claire's enormous ego, Sadhbh's raw talent, Sal's blue lips and Gill's hand infection there was still a considerably important part of the musical puzzle missing. This problem was eventually eradicated when Eamonn Hoban enlisted to play drums for the band in January 2007. New songs came to the fore, old songs resurfaced but essentially composing songs became a collective effort.
The band mounted a whole new plateau and began playing shows on a regular basis in Dublin. Meanwhile their original material was rapidly developing and in September 2007, they finally recorded their debut album. So it has taken a good few months to come to fruition but now it's ripe for the ears of the public.
Unfortunately, they now face the saddening prospect of two members moving abroad so The Isohels are on hiatus!
The album has been successfully launched and thanks to everyone for all the support, it was so wonderful to have you all there cheering us on!
Kooramock will be available for purchase from some stores soon, updates coming soon!
