A Western Family

A Western Family was neo-psychedelic rock band formed in Seattle in the fall of 1983. Consisting of John Massoni on vocals, David A. Kulczyk on guitar, Liz Schmoe on bass and David Thierry on drums, they released 2 cassettes. “A Western Family” was a five-song release recorded shortly after the band was formed. Their second cassette was “Music From Tiger Mountain,” named after the mountain outside of Issaquah, Washington where the band had practiced and where Liz and David Thierry lived. Kulczyk released the great compilation of psychedelic aka Gloom and Doom band “The Sound of Young Seattle Volume I and II, which A Western Family songs, “The Umbrella Theory” and “I Am Rain” appeared on. After playing around 30 shows in two years, Kulczyk quit the band and music in August 1985. Massoni, Schmoe and Thierry found a guitarist and went on to be the legendary Weather Theater. John Massoni went onto a solo career as Maxine.
