ESTOUDIANTINA YOUNG:
Following the history of the estoudiantina from Smyrne, Estoudiantina Neas Ionias was created in 1998, an orchestra consisting of 20 young people who try to develop, elaborate and make the Greek Traditional music known to public. Inspirator and artistic director of this band is Andreas Katsigiannis. It is a one of it’s kind orchestra for the recent music reality, which doesn’t imitate it’s predecessors but by using new components, creates and suggests new musical patterns trying to attract more and more people to the genuine Greek music, something that has been accomplished in a relatively small period of timeMore than 200 concerts have been given from 1999, both in Greece and abroad, to the most known concert halls, together with some of the greatest Greek singers and by accepting awesome reviews from the Greek and foreign press. In difficult times for music quality Estoudiantina has accomplished having permanent fans and lots friends, of various ages, and especially the youth who has the opportunity to discover the quality the soul and the sequence of the authentic Greek music, combined many times with ethnic and folklore components and brilliant music arrangements. The music discography of Estoudiantina consists of 5 art pieces: the cds ''SMYRNE'' and ''Tears on the Glass'', one production from the highly respected Greek music magazine ''DIFONO'' and a live recording together with the Folk instrument national academy orchestra of Odessa.
Following Estoudiantina Neas Ionias the promising ''ESTOUDIANTINA NEON'' was created in 2003 from Andreas Katsigiannis and Nikos Papathanasiou which suggests an alternative music genre for the youth. It is a flexible band that runs through the Greek music beginning from the traditional to the Modern Greek music. The majority of the young people consisting this orchestra has graduated from the Music school of Volos and has received many international awards both as soloists and as a group. Moreover the orchestra got the first prize in an international contest at 2003 and published a brand new cd in 2007 ‘’TO PROTO TAXIDI’’. Common point of reference is the love for the Greek traditional and folk music and the continuous searching of new ways to express themselves. The artistic director of the orchestra is Nikos Baimpas, member of the maternal Estoudiantina N.Ionias, who made his first steps, together with the other members of the orchestra, in the traditional music ensembles of Andreas Katsigiannis.
