The Sk5

About Me

This Film explains a lot more than words ever could. However;
In 2004 The SK-5 invented Shambomelanchtronica. The keys to this great leap forward were the seemingly conflicting maxims of discipline and extemporisation. Before a sound was made, rules were laid down, and stringent self-regulation ensured that they were enforced. Strict observation of dogma became paramount, heretics were castigated and adherents promoted to the highest office.
The methodology went something like this: A single can of utility-grade lager was consumed by each member at the beginning of each meeting, equipment was connected and configured, but then minds and fingers were allowed to wander - as far as was possible to tell with no frame of reference whatsoever. All the while scientific apparatus made detailed recordings of all that transpired. Later on, skilled musopologists worked long and hard to gain understanding of the complex interactions they observed in the experimental data. They succeeded in isolating the most compelling examples of these interactions and recompiling them into a new, condensed whole, which is in fact the basis of the artefact entitled ''Utility Soul Shambles: the sad, sad sound of The SK-5''.
So much for the science, but what of the soul that was the engine roaring away at the heart of this enterprise?
It has been said that The SK-5's music doesn't make statements, more suggestions. Insistent, whispered suggestions. Under intensive electronic scanning it has been shown that the potency of the music is at it's greatest when the listener is at his or her most suggestable- when waking from or drifting into sleep perhaps, or maybe when intoxicated or unwell. Potential listeners should be warned that the SK-5's output has been known to induce a mild, yet reversible, ecstatic vegetative state, known as cataphoria, in test subjects. Some claim to have had beautiful mutant visions revealed unto them in the form of strange dreams. Others just liked the tunes. Perhaps it cannot ever fully be quantified, but it is a universal truism that The SK-5 make a very pure kind of scuzz.
