Some Current Comments:
Harem Scarem were a band that could rock out incredibly hard in one moment and then turn things around in an instant and open the music out so as to float and weave around it in the next. To be lost in that moment of unpredictable potentiality – of sensing our way collectively into something strong and fresh and new – that was a great thing. And I can still hear all of that combined experience, sweat and inspiration, together with the sound of us listening to each other to see what will happen next, embedded in the grooves of Pilgrim’s Progress. I hope you enjoy listening to it too.
Christopher Marshall, April 2007
“I remember seeing Harem Scarem live and they used to sweep you up in a ferocious momentum. Blissfully, they’re back now: a great lost band flying high!â€
Clinton Walker, rock scribe
“I’ve never forgiven Harem Scarem for breaking up. But now at last here comes the classic Pilgrim’s Progress, crawling back from underserved obscurity. As the best liner notes say: PLAY IT LOUD!â€
Michael Lynch, former manager
Back Story:
Legendary Melbourne band Harem Scarem are reforming to celebrate the release of their classic album Pilgrims Progress on Aztec records in early 2008. The band were renowned for their dynamic blend of punk, blues and soul and ignited many a local stage in the 1980s. With a loyal following and upward trajectory of critical and popular acclaim they disbanded way too soon in 1987.
On the 22nd anniversary of its recording, Pilgrims Progress has been lovingly remixed and remastered to provide sonic clarity and warmth while staying completely faithful to the original recording. Available on CD for the very first time, the reissue package includes bonus live tracks, other studio recordings and a detailed 16 page booklet packed with photos.
Pilgrim's Progress will be released February 1st 2008 on Aztec records. Fans with fond memories of the band, along with those who missed out the first time, can experience the intensity and power that is Harem Scarem live when they launch the album at The Corner Saturday March 29.
