Respect for Layne

About Me

Towards the end of May my friend Caro and I had decided we had had enough. We were finished with sitting by quietly as people quickly rushed to cheer Layne Staley's replacement. With heavy hearts we watched as the same people who had once placed Layne on a pedestal swept him out of the way, and placed a new shiny knockoff where he once stood. We knew there were others who felt the same as us. We had shared private messages off the boards because we knew that to outwardly state our outrage would lead to attacks. It's so much easier to cheer the new when you can push the one you are replacing to the back of your mind. So any attempt on our part to point this out was quickly squashed. But our time of being quiet is over. Instead of showing Layne the respect to say, 'you know AIC was something special we had with Layne. We can't replicate that, we should start with a new project" they instead chose to replace him. And that is why the Respect for Layne campaign has begun. The Respect for Layne campaign is an effort to bring those who feel as we do out of the shadows, and to make our voices heard. We want to ask Jerry, Sean, and Mike to please reconsider continuing on as AIC.Will we succeed? Most likely not. Will we have the satisfaction of knowing that we tried to do what we could to honor the memory of a man whom we love and respect? Absolutely!Interested? Then come join us in our fightWe have a petition to Columbia Records you can sign here:http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/respectforlayneTh e website is still currently under construction. However, the forum is up and running. At the forum you can find out what you can do to help in the campaign to be heard. We can sit around and be mad all we want but it won't matter if we don't make enough noise to be noticed. You can also share any ideas you may have. The forum can be found here:http://respectforlaynestaley.comPlease do not come to this forum to defend the "new" AIC. There are plenty of places for you to visit in order to do that. Might I suggest the official AIC website … don't let the lack of Layne on the site stop you, just go on in..If you would like to contact one of the administrators of Respect for Layne please feel free to e-mail us at:[email protected] You can also copy and repost this message to help spread the word.
