The Side Effects formed in 1980 during the first Athens, Georgia New Wave explosion of bands, entering the bounty of talent with The B-52's, Pylon, Method Actors, and Love Tractor. Playing legendary venues The 40 Watt Club, Georgian Theater, The Agora Ballroom and 688, The Side Effects brought high energy minimal dance music in tandem with a 60's garage band flavor. Signing to Danny Beard's DB Recs and releasing one 12" EP [DB 58] (with the four songs you hear here on mySpace). Unfortunately, The Side Effects broke up soon after the release of the record and tragically, bassist Jimmy Ellison (first husband of Pylon's Vanessa Briscoe Hay) died in 1983 of a brain tumor. Kit Swartz and Paul Butchart went on to play in other Athens bands.
