With three releases under her belt, (The Disconnection, First Blood Mystery and the Into My Blood EP), Carina Round delivers a different approach to her mischievously ethereal past works on her newest, Slow Motion Addict. Fusing these familiar aspects with a clarified version of a raw, empowered, provocative self, Slow Motion Addict contains visceral and passionate tales, taking us on a significant and soulful sonic trek. Our introduction into this compelling journey will be the record’s first single, the gusty and brave “Come To You.â€
Carina’s voice first washes over us on “Stolen Car,†the album’s introductory track, and continues its delicate avalanche over the pounding, jagged rhythms that sweep through Slow Motion Addict. Carina grew up on Led Zeppelin, Roxy Music and Nina Simone, and upon first listen it’s apparent that she fully absorbed her predecessors’ musical savvy. Her voice rumbles and howls a la PJ Harvey on tracks like “How Many Times†and “Come To You.†From the melancholic disposition of “January Heart†to the man-eating and gritty “Same Girlfriend†(an unafraid, thunderous tune), Slow Motion Addict’s versatility warrants serious attention.
Discovered by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame several years ago, the Wolverhampton, England chanteuse’s first release, Into My Blood EP, was released on Stewart’s label, Weapons of Mass Entertainment, and their relationship has since remained strong (Slow Motion Addict will be released on Stewart’s Weapons of Mass Entertainment through Interscope). Grammy-winning producer Glen Ballard (Alanis Morissette, No Doubt, Dave Matthews Band) was a key collaborator on the way to unearthing Carina Round’s newfound breadth. Ballard distinguished her painfully beautiful vocals, jacked up her raucous guitar sounds and ensured Slow Motion Addict would leave each and every listener transfixed.
After sharing stages with the likes of Coldplay, David Gray, Ryan Adams, Elbow and Ed Harcourt, among others, Carina arrives well equipped for US stages. For those of you who have yet to witness one of Carina’s shows, prepare to melt. Her live performance is nothing short of spectacular – she can lambaste her guitar, shout like a siren, and make her vintage dress billow in one fell swoop.Myspace Layouts
