Most recently worked tens of thousands of miles touring the U.S, Canada & Europe with Nick Moss & the Flip Tops . Thanks Nick, good times, we'll catch you on the flip flop... Over the past twenty years however, the list of Blues Greats from Chicago and elsewhere I've had the great pleasure of drumming behind reads something like this: Jody Williams, Pinetop Perkins,
Willie"Bigeyes"Smith & Hubert Sumlin, etc... Some notable gigs: with Jody Williams to include the 2005 Chicago Blues Blues Festival & the 2007 Poconos Blues Festival. The SanFrancisco Blues Festival with Nick & the Fliptops. A recent December 07' performance with piano great Henry Grey and Big Pete Pearson (The Blues King in Phoenix) & Billy Flynn along with The Rhythm Room Allstars at The Rhythm Room (Phoenix, AZ) topped off 07' in fine fashion. This visit to Phoenix also included a Bob Corritore produced recording session with Billy Flynn, Big Pete Pearson, Henry Grey, Johnny Dyer, Chris James & Patrick Rynn & Bob Corritore. From 2005 until recent, both Kenny Smith & Eddie Kobek (alternately) provide the genuine blues beat behind Willie "Bigeyes" Smith, (long time drummer for the great Muddy Waters) as he tours the country promoting his first release as a harmonica playing frontman. That band includes the great & vital blues bass playing of Bob Stroger.
The list goes on to include performances with Hubert Sumlin at The St. Louis Blues Fest - The Pittsburgh Blues Fest - The King Bisquit Blues Fest, Helena, AR - The State Theatre Kalamazoo, MI - Columbia & Charloette, SC - Clarksdale, MS - Bull Durham Blues Fest - Buddy Guys Legends - Detroit Institute of Art...
Going back now... I first met the indestructible pianoman Pinetop Perkins back in the mid 80's working clubs around the mid-west. Work with Pinetop Perkins continued through the 90's to include Dave Myers on bass. Worth mentioning was a 1993 appearance with Robert Jr. Lockwood in Cleveland, OH. The past several years however, have made way for performances with Pinetop at many of the Blues Festivals mentioned along with Hubert Sumlin including The 2007 King Bisquit Festival in Helena, Arkansas.
From 1998 through 2007, if you happened into Billy Flynns' seemingly timeless gig at The Smoke Daddy in Chicago, there you caught Eddie Kobek on the drums. On Division St, bluesmen along the lines of Eddie C. Campbell, Dusty Brown, Jody Williams, Lil Aurther Duncan, Illinois Slim, Dave Waldman, Eddie Taylor Jr. and countless others would drop by to sit in.
Other notable gigs through the years include Rockin Johnny & the Lazy Boys(Martin Lang & Sho Komyia) Little Aurther Duncan & the Backscratchers, Taildragger, Rob Stone & the CNotes. In 2005 at the Chicago Blues Festival with Dusty Brown & a 2001 Lucerne, Switzerland Festival with Little Smokey Smothers. More great nights to remember: Jesse Fortune, Barrelhouse Chuck, Barkin Bill, Mary Lane, Lazy Lester, Rusty Zinn, Bernard Reed (bass), The Chicago Blues Reunion, and the list goes ..: watch for Chris James' recent recording soon to be released on the Earwig label. Several drummers are on this record like Sam Lay, Willie Hayes, and Ed Kobek. Peace & Go Obama! real editor best profile tools real editor best profile tools
