Fresh out of the studio with Grammy winning producer/engineer Gus Oberg (The Strokes, Willie Nelson), Farewell Republic are poised to receive widespread success with their debut EP "Bridges." They have been building a fan base in Ann Arbor through their energetic live shows and have headlined the city's biggest rock club on multiple occasions. The Farewell Republic Roadshow has already begun to make believers while touring the east coast four times at venues including The Living Room in Providence, The Knitting Factory and Pianos in NYC, Public Assembly in Brooklyn, The Khyber in Philadelphia, and a sold out co-headlining show at The Black Cat (backstage) in Washington, DC. In the near future, they hope to bring this energy to the rest of the country.
"It's bandwagon time, kids." - The Michigan Daily
"Intense, theatrical, guitar shredding, visceral indie-rock blasting over the mountaintops and reigning down on the complacent suburbia below..." - Jeff Milo (Deep Cutz)
"Slightly psychedelic, slightly world-music leaning, slightly NY-77-art-punk leaning, slightly Eno leaning...and yet never really sounding like any of that – blending all these grand influences into hook-heavy gut-punch indie-pop, filled with glorious guitar feats, sweet solos or feedback storms." - The Current (September '08)
"Local indie rock quartet Farewell Republic is, musically and logistically, coming into 2009 like a tidal wave." - The Current (March '09)
"I hate this cliché, but in the case of Ann Arbor quartet Farewell Republic, the “catch-them-while-you-can” dribble is unique..." - Real Detroit Weekly (February '09)
"If you haven't heard [Farewell Republic], they're hard to categorize, but put them somewhere between Godspeed You Black Emperor and the Mahavishnu Orchestra - and a bunch of other stuff." - The Ann Arbor News
"A hazy space-rock with undeniable flares of post-punk." - Real Detroit Weekly (January '09)
"Tight, orchestral, indie-rock..." - Washington City Paper
"'Bridges' features a wide array of musical genres, at times edging toward jazz and ambient moods and at others returning to a strong indie rock sound." - Rochester Campus Times
"[Farewell Republic] has a fresh, unique sound that's contagious. Once you start listening, it gets hard to stop because you can really hear how much fun they're having. It's that communicable energy that makes them so endearing, fun to listen to, and is sure to bring them a ton of success."- Lincoln Boehm (WCBN Radio 88.3)
"Farewell Republic leads the listener through dynamic epics with their emotive power and studio expertise." - Michael Kleinman (WQHS Radio)
"I don't know exactly who to direct this issue to but it's regarding a loud band that seems to play usually on Sundays and some random times. They use the larger room located at the end of the piano hall by the men's restroom. They are ridiculously loud and I know that the non-pianists can't even use the rooms close to that room. I don't know exactly who is in there playing but perhaps there can be an e-mail sent out regarding playing such music at such a volume near the practice rooms. Thank you."
You might have heard us on: WCBN (Michigan), WQHS (UPenn), WLFM (Lawrence College), WMFO (Tufts University), WSLR (Sarasota, Florida)
