Billy Cirque was born in 1882 to a watchmaker and seamstress in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York. Billy made his way, without an education, through his childhood selling newspapers and oatmeal on the street to anyone who passed by. It was a fool's errand since the only people who lived around him were doing the same thing; selling newspaper and oatmeal. Since none of the little boys were making any money with their breakfast pairings, they decided, since there were plently of them, to put on streetshows that they could sell tickets to, and perhaps make money that way.
This also did not work.
But that did not stop the boys from dancing and singing their hearts out. Byt the time Billy reached the age of 18, after working under his father for a couple years learning the ins, outs and arounds of making watches, he had enough chops on him and under him to try his hand at dancing his way on to Broadway. He succeeded right after the tourn of the century by getting a role for himself in the Ziegfeld Follies.
He had a successful reprising role in the onstantly revamped follies until a clandestine relationship between he and Flo Zeigfeld became uncovered in the press. Flo covered this back up by hiring an actress with a rhyming name to act as a patsy claiming his relationship with Billy was a "audio misunderstanding." Billy was not able to work on Broadway again.
Instead, he was forced to strip at downtown venues. Having no proper audience for a male stripper, the owners of the clubs and bars took pity on him and allowed him to do his act eventhough it was impossibly difficult for him to continue after the deluges of rotten vegetables and coins (many hated him, many LOVED him).
