Solicide has lurked in murky waters since 1999.
The band released - when it was still a solo-project - one full album: "Der Untergang des Abendlandes". Three songs of repetitive coldness, mesmerising slowness and confusing lowness.
Since then, 2003, Solicide has had plans to release a split album and one more full album. During the recording of the song for the split album with the Canadian band Funerary Dirge, Solicide doubled its members. L. asked A. to join in because of his rich musical background and influence on the songs. It was a natural step to take as they know each other very well. L. and A. have been close friends for several years. Musically they dwelled in the strangest of places with bands that hold names like "On the Eve of Aral", "Rubbish for the People" and "Borris" among others.
After the recording in 2004 of the split album song things took a slow turn for Solicide. This was the period when the other projects surfaced or resurfaced. Nothing durable came out of this, although L. assembled material for what should've been a double CD with three long songs and a rather long intro and outro for which even artwork was conceived.
Nevertheless things took a new turn when the album of Wijlen Wij finally got released by Aesthetic Death Records. Although not actually playing or singing on the recording itself, L. is a co-founding member of this band and helped out with writing lyrics and music for the debut album of great musicians of the Belgian extreme doom scene: Kostas from Pantheïst, Stijn from Until Death Overtakes Me and K. from In Somnis. The album was recorded in 2003-2004. At the time L. was not available due to personal reasons.
This succes gave a boost to the dormant, yet active Solicide project. In the meantime L. had met up with P. a collegue at work, but also a good friend, full time music nut and just like A. a multi-talented musical mastermind. Wanting to expand the brooding horizons of the Solicide hemisphere L. asked P. to join when he started with a new plan for five songs around the theme of the great post modern piece of poetry "The Waste Land" by T.S. Eliott. K. from ex-In Somnis has been asked to fill the role of session drummer.
More will follow later, because for the moment L. has had enough of writing about himself from a third person viewpoint.
