SHUSH

About Me

SHUSH is Sheila Unvala, fiddle, and Sepp Huber, guitar. We play traditional fiddle tunes, waltzes, processionals, marches and tunes gleaned from sources classical to contemporary. We sing songs that we love, from hollers and shakers to tender love songs and lullabies, Cuban boleros, Cajun and Creole party songs and a wide selection of “dirges”, that is, tunes or songs too slow to be included in the usual bar gig. Sheila’s classical technique adds rich tone and power on the fiddle, and Sepp’s adaptation of the nylon-stringed guitar brings harmonic support and percussion. Occasionally we’ll use a whistle or a mandolin. A constantly evolving repertoire means that a SHUSH show is always full of adventure and surprises.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: Under Construction
Band Members: Sheila Unvala, fiddle and vocals Sepp Huber, Guitar and vocals
Influences: Richard Thompson, Lucinda Williams, Red Stick Ramblers, Jeff and David Lewis, Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Ibrahim Fehrer, Tim & Mollie O, Curtis Russet, Tommy Taylor, Blue Northern, Taj Mahal
Sounds Like: Sepp and Sheila playing their guitar and fiddle respectively, and singin’.We’re also half of the band LIVE BAIT, with Curtis Russet on guitar, Jim O’Neil on bass, button accordion and, when we’re lucky, Tinder Hearth Tim on drums. When that happens, Sepp switches over to banjo, accordion, mandolin and whistle. LIVE BAIT plays a lot of the stuff that SHUSH plays, only with more oomph, maybe a little less schmaltz and tenderness, as well as its own repertoire of songs and tunes that would be probably be called "Americana" for lack of a better word. We play weddings and parties and dances and fish fries.

Tidal Falls

A nice crowd in a beautiful place. The rain held off, almost. All in all perfect until the no-see-ums hit.
