Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream I auditioned for and got the role of Nick Bottom the weaver at BIT (Big Ideas Theater) we close Dec 13, 2008. I am so excited because this is one of those life list roles I have wanted to do.Actor's Nightmare/Sister Mary... Two funny one-act plays at BIT (Big Ideas Theater). We open April 4, 2008 and we have had only three weeks of rehearsals. Yikes! This is the short period of time I have ever had to prep for a play. Was sick for much of the production with a bad cold but I think we did great. Great cast of talented people.
Sylvia was CANCELLED but a very funny play at BIT (Big Ideas Theater). Was offered the lead role, (Greg) husband in mid-life crisis. Rehearsals start 2/18/08...
Cinderella at Runaway Stage has been completed, January 26, 2008! It set records for tickets sold and the last show sold out!!! I was cast as the 'StepMother'. Yes, that's right. Yours truly was in drag again. It is a very funny children's production.
Ghost Writer closed at ThistleDew on December 1, 2007. Wonderful Play! It is an original stage play which I was the authors muse. Kinda cool thing and great play!
Leading Ladies a very funny play at Chautauqua. I played one of the lead roles, (Leo/Maxine) British Shakespearean actor who dons a dress and wig to inherit a fortune and win the heart of a pretty girl. We sold out most of our shows and we had very positive reviews from those who saw it. Another very funny play with twist and turns, schemes to win money and hearts. Love wins in the end. My dear friend Wade said that he laughed is ass off.
Enchanted April wins big at the Ellys! Best Show, Best Director, Best Leading Actress, Best Support Actress (two of them tied). It was nominated for 10 Elly's (local Sacramento theater awards). My wife, Shaleen, won the Elly award for best leading actress in a comedy for her tour de force performance in Enchanted April.. I was a supporting actor (not nominated) but we won for Best Comedy Show.
A reviewer said "My favorite part of the entire production had to have been when Smith became a little more exposed than most should see in public. It had the audience holding their sides laughing while wiping tears from their eyes." I added the promo photo of me in a towel from the show. Enchanted April was my second show to win Best Comedy. I have yet to win any. The other stage production was...
Funny Money We had a troubled rehearsal period. And with one week before we opened, we were told by the owner of the theatre, that he thought we could not open the play. But we did...we worked hard and created a funny, wonderful production. It was hard for me...much of my performance was pushing the story along. I set the tone for the play. I was nominated for Best Male Lead in a Comedy for the second time. The first time was as Floyd Spinner in Love, Sex and the IRS, a very funny comedy.
One comment given by local playwright, Donya: "I thought Greg was hilarious in Funny Money and even better in Love Sex and the IRS. In Jeckyl and Hyde he was terrifying as the evil Mr. Hyde. He looks so harmless when he's standing still that you wouldn't believe until you see it what he can do when possessed by a character."
