Luo Di began playing cello at the age of seven and earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China. He studied under famous teachers Wang Pei Fan, Zhong Po and Yu Ming Qing. Luo Di joined Beijing Symphony Orchestra, as an associate principal cellist in 1997.
Luo Di came to Canada in 1998 to pursue a Master Degree in music performance at the University of Montreal, studying with renown cellist and conductor Yuli Turovsky (artistic director of I Musici de Montreal Chamber Orchestra).He also participated in many music festivals and master classes with artists such as Yo Yo Ma and Janos Starker, among others. In 1999, Mr. Luo Di won second prize at the Fourth Orford Arts Center International Competition. Luo Di is a founding member of Muczynsky Trio and Muczynsky Duo, which won numerous awards and competitions. The Grand Prize at the 2002 Canadian National Music competition and the First prize at the 2004 international Contemporary Chamber Music Competition in Krakow, Poland. The trio performed a 20-concert tour throughout Canada for Jeunesse Musicales of Canada and was invited by the prestigious chamber music society Pro Musica to perform in their Topaz Series in 2006.
Since Luo Di’s arrival in Montreal he actively participates in numerous orchestral and chamber music concerts, solo recitals and TV and radio recordings. He plays on many occasions with I Musici de Montreal Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist, he has played on many occasions with the Youth Symphony Orchestra of China, the FACE Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of University of Montreal and I Musici de Montreal. He played for Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin and Chinese ambassador of Canada Shumin Lu in the celebration of the 35th anniversary of Chinese –Canadian relations in October2005. Luo Di completed his PHD of Music at University of Montreal in December 2005. In the summer of 2006 Luo Di has played four solo recitals around China. In 2007 together with the Erhu player Shen Qi (Chinese Violin), he has founded VI Strings Ensemble which explores Chinese folkloric and classical music styles and participates in many multi cultural festivals and events. Up till now Luo Di has recorded three CDs and in April 2008 he is going to record Shostakovich cello concerto with Kazan State Orchestra and in May he will record a Trio CD with I Musici de Montreal chamber orchestra. He is regular professor of Lambda school of Music and fine arts, Mont-royal academe of music, Tutti Music Camp and guest professor of Sichuan Conservatory of Music in China since 2007.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
