I was born on 6th of December into a musically family, starting in the age of 8 with a classical formation on violoncello on the conservatory of music in Graz. At the high school I started playing drums at the age of 14 at the schoolband under the lead of the great pianist and teacher EBERHARD PRÖSCHL, who showed us the world of fusion and jazz. Later on I wanted to change to professional musician but I decided to study architecture at the university of Graz, but I never left the world of music until now. In 1996 I went to Granada (the most beautiful town in Spain) and joint to the marvellous R..n B..-Band AVALON (José Valenzuela voc, Angel Moreno guit, David Rueda b), later on very famous in the region under the name BALASERA. In this time I had the opportunity to make very good friends like the guys from the British band LAZYWALL, JOSE VALENZUELA(Fantastic vocal of the Spanish band 5-0-5) or the flamencos of PATÍ PAMÍ with their exceptional guitarplayer RAFAEL SOLER LOPEZ. At this time I could learn a lot about the Spanish culture and life.
During the years I had some regular drumteacher like JOSI HIERZBERGER of BIGBAND SÃœD or STUDIOPERCUSSION and I went to a lot of masterclass and workshops of my big heroes like VINNIE COLAIUTA, BILLY COBHAM, TERRY BOZZIO, GÃœNTHER GRASSMUCK, WILL CALHOUN, THOMAS LANG, STEVE SMITH. In 1998 I participated at the RHITHM-SEMINAR at Marktoberdorf (Germany) studying one week with DAVE WECKL, JOJO MAYER, LUIS CONTE, ED THIGHPEN.
Beside the music a have a big hobby which is sport. As a professional ski-coach, ski-instructor and hobby-racer I had the opportunity to participate in OC of several Alpine-Ski-World-Champion-Ships like 1995/6 in SIERRA NEVADA (Spain), 1997 in SESTRIERE (Italy), 1999 in ST. ANTON/ARLBERG (Austria) and 2000/1 in ST. MORITZ (Switzerland). There I had the big oportunity to find a very good friend, Mr. THOM THEYS, who was for 15 years studiodrummer in Hollywood and has played with artists such as TOTO, KENNY LOGGINS and JACKSON BROWN. Now he is the race-cheef of the alpine world cup races at VAIL / BEAVER CREEK (USA). In summertime I am big lover of offshore-sailing and have participated some times at the sailing event BARCOLANA at Trieste (Italy).
And finally my last obsession are the VOLKSWAGEN BEATLES and BULLIES. At this time I am restoring an VW Bully of 1976 in Lofoten-green with sliding-doors on both sides, original! Hope to take for a ride soon.
Nací un 6 de diciembre en una familia musical y empecé una formación en violoncello en el conservatorio de musica en Graz. En el instituto comencé a tocar la batería con 14 años en el grupo de musica al mando del muy bien pianista y professor EBERHARD PROESCHL que nos acercaba al mundo de la Fusión y Jazz. Despues de la selectividad quería seguir mi carrera profesional de musico pero me decidí por estudiar la arquitectura superior en la universidad de Graz, pero nunca he dejado tocar musica hasta ahora. En el año 1996 me fuí a Granada (la ciudad más bonita de España) y entre a formar parte del grupo R..n B..AVALON (José Valenzuela voz, Angel Moreno git, David Rueda bajo), que se hizo famoso en la región como BALASERA. En estos tiempos tuve la oportunidad de conocer a muy buena gente como a musicos del grupo britanico LAZYWALL, JOSE VALENZUELA ( genial cantante del grupo español 5-0-5 )o los flamencos de PATÍ PAMÍ, entre ellos el muy buen guitarrista RAFAEL SOLER LOPEZ. Con esta gente he aprendido mucho sobre la cultura y vida de este país tan maravilloso.
Durante los años he tenido regularmente algunos maestros de batería como JOSI HIERZBERGER de la BIGBAND SÜD o STUDIOPERCUSSION y he frecuentado muchos masterclasses y workshops de mis grandes heroes como VINNIE COLAIUTA, BILLY COMBHAM, TERRY BOZZIO, GÜNTHER GRASSMUCK, WILL CALHOUN, THOMAS LANG, STEVE SMITH. En 1998 he participado en el RHITHM-SEMINARIO en Marktoberdorf (Alemaña) estudiando una semana con DAVE WECKL, JOJO MAYER, LUIS CONTE, ED THIGHPEN.
A parte de la musica tengo un gran hobby, que es el deporte. Como maestro y entrenador profesional de esquí he tenido la oportunidad de participar en el OC de algunos Campeonatos de esqui alpino como 1995/6 en SIERRA NEVADA (España), 1997 en SESTRIERE (Italia), 1999 en ST. ANTON/ARLBERG (Austria) y 2000/1 en ST. MORITZ (Suizza). En esta occasión tenía la oportunidad de conocer Sr. THOM THEYS, que trabajaba por 15 años como batería de estudio en Hollywood y ha tocado con artistas como TOTO, KENNY LOGGINS o JACKSON BROWN. Ahora es jefe de preparación de pistas por la copa del mundo de esquí alpino en VAIL / BEAVER CREEK (USA). En el verano soy un apasionado de la vela y he participado varias veces en el evento, la BARCOLANA en Trieste (Italia).
Finalmente mi última pasión son los escarabajos y furgonetas VOLKSWAGEN. Ahora estoy restaurando una furgoneta del año 1976 en verde-lofoten con puertas corredizas de ambos lados, original! La típica furgona hippy!
