About Me

comment FFS
The task of kicking off the second Surface semi-final showcase at Birmingham’s Barfly fell to Alternative Indie-Rock five-piece Fallen from Static, and to their credit they rose to the occasion well. They’ve got a strong sound which, while firmly rooted in contemporary Indie-Rock, shows some real innovation and sounds all the more fresh and exciting for it. It’s refreshing to see a band trying out new tracks rather than relying on the (admittedly excellent) songs that brought them this far – and from the quality of their new material it looks like these guys are heading in the right direction. As strong in their quicker moments as on their melodic, atmospheric numbers – they delivered a first-rate live performance and got the excellent audience response that they deserved.
Stephen Hudyba, BBC WM (following Surface Unsigned Semi-Finals)
Fallen from Static create a unique and tidy mixture of Pop and Alternative-Rock that is wholly accessible and instantly likeable, it’s no surprise they have already amassed a small army of loyal, enthusiastic (and very vocal) fans. As a band they draw influence from a wide range of different sounds and this is reflected by a substantial range in their material. While sometimes, because of this wide scope, their sound lacks focus, yet at the same time shows their diverse ability as songwriters and performers, and on the night took nothing way from what was a very impressive performance.
Stephen Hudyba, BBC WM (following Surface Unsigned Round Two)
The first band to take to the Rainbow’s stage was Birmingham based alternative rock act Fallen from Static. Their sound is vocally driven, up-beat rock-pop-indie; simple, catchy riffs and infectious melodies make for a highly accessible direction, whilst some intelligent lyrics and some clever song-structure give it some real depth. A big favourite with the Monday night crowd, they’ve got some strong material and put on a good show, and while they could be a bit tighter as a band, they definitely showed they’ve got potential.
Stephen Hudyba, BBC WM (following Surface Unsigned Round One)
"FFS are from Birmingham and have possibly one of the nicest vocalists we have recorded in a good few months. Soft, clear and meaningful lyrics just roll out of this guys mouth at a smooth constant pace which draw you in brilliantly."
