About Me

The Andalusi Dance Class is a combination of Pilates, Belly dance and Flamenco inspired by the dance forms widely practiced in southern Spain. The class will warm up with Pilates to tone the entire body and strengthen the core muscles. Belly dancing develops the sensual and curvy movements that greatly influence the final component, Flamenco. Andalusi Dance is designed to give everyone the opportunity to experience the spirit and fire of the union of Arabic and Spanish dance forms while still being gentle to your joints. It is a grounding, chakra energizing and liberating experience that will bring out the gypsy heart from within.
The Flamenco class focuses on various elements of technique such as basic posture, braceo (arms), Maneo (hand movements), taconeo (footwork) and compas (rhythms). Students will learn and review these movements throughout the course to eventually dance a complete choreography. Discover the rich history, the fiery movements and complex rhythms that make Flamenco such an incredible dance form.
All classes in these areas are being offered in various locations!
*Flamenco:Mondays at Ballet Austin, Tapestry starting Saturdays
*Andalusi Dance: master classes at the Synergy Studio, San Antonio every month
*Pilates: The Pilaates Studio Ann Arnoult located on 30th and Guadalupe
*Regular Performances at Phara's Mediterranean Restaurant located on 111 E. North Loop
I began dancing ballet from age 15 to age 19, I studied and performed in several ballets with the Ballet Austin dance company. I discovered Flamenco, and after graduating from The University of Texas in Austin, I moved to Seville, Spain where I perfected Flamenco for seven years. There I also discovered Integral Yoga and Belly dancing and performed in several Moroccan establishments. I noticed the important influences of Belly dance in Flamenco and began incorporating the dance form in my own choreographies. I toured Canada in 2003, as the guest Flamenco soloist in Spain Meets Canada II under the direction of Kari Alba. I taught several intensive Flamenco workshops and realized that teaching beginner students was not only rewarding, but it also influenced me to create another way of teaching Flamenco without wearing shoes and aggravating the joints. I hold my Pilates mat certification with Polestar Education and certified in Pilates aparatus under Ann Arnoult. My purpose is to promote health through alternative ways of movement.
I perform with Oliver Rajamani and his amazing ensemble. Come check them out!
