I was born and grew up on the east coast of the U.S., but have been living abroad a good part of my life (in Japan as a child for a couple years, in Kiev from '93 to 2001, and now in Berlin since 2001). Though I studied art, I've always had a passion for music, influenced most certainly by my family: Dad playing boogie woogie and ragtime piano, Mom singing with her bohemian friends, Erik on the banjo, Nick on the guitar, and Luke who so fantastically played whatever you put in his hands-- everything from drums to sax to sitar. As the youngest I had the benefit of learning and gaining from my older brothers. When Luke took drum lessons, I was eager to do the same; the steel string Epiphone that Nick used to play later became mine; Erik showed me how to use harmonics when tuning the guitar. The styles of music filling our house while I was growing up was a wonderful mix of jazz, bossa nova, folk, bluegrass, and rock 'n' roll. I think a bit of all of that comes out in what I play today. My instruments are flute, acoustic guitar, and voice.
