Refinancing by any nameLast month, Syosset-based Homebridge Mortgage Bankers officially changed its name to Refinance.com and, in an unsurprisingly related move, launched a Web site of the same name.The 16-year-old company provides an array of home-financing products, but the name change reflects a corporate mission to zero in on refinancing, said Nicholas Bratsafolis, chairman and chief executive of Refinance.com.The Web site allows users to take a virtual test-drive of the company's various loan options to see which fits best, Bratsafolis said. It's a heady time to be focusing on the refinancing business since scads of homeowners nationwide are waking up to the adjustable-rate mortgages they signed during more favorable interest-rate times, and Refinance.com wants to take advantage of the opportunities, he added."We are positioning Refinance.com to be the safety net allowing these homeowners to look at all of the options available and a forum for them to be able to discuss all of the alternatives with our loan consultants," Bratsafolis said in a statement announcing the name change.By the way, the domain name "Refinance.com" didn't come cheap. According to DN Journal, a trade publication covering the domain-name industry, the former Homebridge shelled out $706,850 last November for the rights to the URL. That made Refinance.com the sixth-most expensive domain name of 2005, about $300,000 less than the rights to "Fish.com," according to DN Journal.The most expensive domain name of 2006 - through Oct. 15 - is Diamond.com, which cost some investor $7.5 million.
