About Me

Sacramento Men's Chorus was founded in 1984. In 1990 we incorporated in the State of California and registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. We are also a grant recipient of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission. The Sacramento Men's Chorus is a proud member of the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses, Inc. (GALA).
SMC produces up to three major concerts a year, and performs throughout the year at events, public and private, in and around the Sacramento metropolitan area. In addition, SMC has its own ensemble performance group "Entourage", that represents SMC at venues too small for the entire chorus and other opportunities for outreach. Our season begins in the Fall/Winter and ends in the Spring/Summer. We have performed for the Sacramento Mayoral and California Gubernatorial inaugurations; numerous charity benefits (two with Judy Collins!) ; and have given our gift of music at memorials of those taken from us.
~~~~~~
By an overwhelming vote of the members, the Sacramento Men’s Chorus will now be performing as the Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus.
“This is something we’ve been considering for some time,” said SMC President Ken Cook. “The political and social situation is very different than it was when the chorus was founded 22 years ago, and today people are more free to be open. We are a member the local gay community, and have been for years, and we felt it was important to have our name reflect who we really are.”
“We still welcome all men who want to sing, straight or gay. We’ve had many straight members over the years, and even now not everyone in the chorus is gay. But we are musical ambassadors for the gay and lesbian community in Sacramento, and we wanted to honor that in our performance name.”
¨ To create a safe and welcoming setting for gay men to enjoy and share song and fellowship.
¨ To strive for musical excellence through education and performance.
¨ To confront intolerance by providing a positive experience of the gay community.
¨ To become an integral part of the Arts communities through performance and outreach programs.
My Interests
I'd like to meet:
Do you sing...
...in the shower?
...in the car?
Always humming your favorite tune?
We are always looking for additional members! Come join the Sacramento Gay Men's Chorus! Meet our members, accompanist and artistic director. Enjoy some goodies, rehearse and have some fun!
New members are always welcome and may join as singers or non-singers. Joining couldn't be easier, we do not audition (but will range test)!
If you love to sing and can carry a note, have the desire to make a commitment of your time, or just want to be a part of a great organization, come to a rehearsal or contact us for more information at:
