Menu
Our food menu is an abbreviated version of the Heartland Cafe's menu. That's right. We built a special porthole that goes right into the Heartland kitchen. All we have to do, is take your order, ring a bell and within minutes your food is served. Just like in the 50's.
Music
The Red Line is host to music performances 7 nights a week, including the long running Open Mike on Thursday nights, which is currently hosted by Micki Croisant. From Punk to Funk, The Red Line Tap has something for everyone.
In the beginning of 2007, The Red Line Tap's Stage was given an overhaul, with new lighting, soundproofing, and an improved PA system, making performances in the Red Line Tap more enjoyable, not only for customers but for the acts playing here as well.
History
Rogers Park’s friendly neighborhood tavern, is located next door to the Heartland Cafe, alongside the Red Line El (train) tracks at 7006 North Glenwood.
How far back the tavern goes has yet to be established, but we’ve had personal reports of people visiting the “7006 club†and the "Rogers Park Boating Club" since the early 1900's. "Roy’s" was a well known tavern to neighbhood patrons as well fans to the north of the chicago city limits. And for all the years he ran his bar, Roy was a welcoming host to all who found his threshold. For years, the action-packed pool table at Roy's drew as many fans as the old fashioned bowling machine.
After Roy Kawaguchi passed away in 1996, the long popular tap was expanded, refurbished, cleaned, overhauled, painted and reenergized as the The Red Line Tap, so named because of its proximity to the Red Line train, its track, and its route name. The bar still hosts many of the old 'regulars' from Roys' days as well as welcoming new neighbors on a daily basis. The pool table is still here and draws some great contests, and the vintage Ms. Pac Man and Galaga games offer 1980's fun for all.
At the Red Line Tap you will often find yourself wrapped up in a conversation over a great selection of domestic and imported beers, as well as classic draft offerings and well poured drinks. The high ceilings and good ventilation insures clear enough air for non-smokers to be comfortable and the newly installed central air conditioning (1999) makes this a great stop on summer nights after eating at the outdoor Cafe next door.
