CARISSA'S BIO
Carissa has been performing around Massachusetts since she was nine years old. Her singing voice is enough to capture attention… and it does!
Carissa escalated to local fame at only eleven years old while singing as the opening act for the legendary soul singer Percy Sledge when his tour came to Boston. Since then she has performed at many venues some singers only dream about.
She was the youngest person ever at the time, being only eleven years old, to sing the National Anthem for the Boston Bruins at the FleetCenter. Her National Anthem tour continued with performances at Foxboro Stadium, Boston University’s Nickerson Field, and a return to the FleetCenter for another Bruins’ game. She has also sung the National Anthem for the Boston Celtics at the TD Banknorth Garden.
Other high profile performances have been singing at the DCR Hatch Shell, the Massachusetts State House, the MassCap at Suffolk Downs, the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism Road Race, the former WBA heavyweight champion John Ruiz’s official celebration, numerous feasts and festivals, and at radio and television sponsored events.
Her amazing vocals were showcased in New York City at a national competition where her efforts paid off when she won a Youth Vocal award. Other winnings have included: an Alicia Keys Singing Competition at the former Boston’s Virgin Records Megastore, an American Idol Karaoke Competition judged by American Idol finalists, placing as a Boston finalist for NBC’s reality show “The Most Talented Kid in America”, and winning the Beethoven Society Music Award as well as winning other local contests. Standing ovations have become quite common, in particular, her appearance at a Night for Heroes with nationally known comedians and other singers.
Carissa is also a hit with the media; she has been interviewed on WILD 1090 am, sang live on WROR 105.7 fm and Oldies 103.3 fm, sang televised renditions of the National Anthem on NESN and NECN, appeared on various community access television stations, and has been featured in many newspapers and billboards in Massachusetts.
Most recently, Carissa competed on the New England television talent show "Community Auditions - Star of the Day" where she won and was awarded the Star of the Day. She competed the next week to defend her star and won again! She was awarded a second Star of the Day. The third week, Carissa received a perfect score from the judges and was awarded her third Star of the Day. She performed for the fourth week and won her fourth Star of the Day. Winning four times automatically earns the singer a spot to perform in the Community Auditions' finals.
Carissa performed in the Community Audition: Star of the Day finals and won a spot in the Grand Championship Finals. She competed in the Grand Championship Final Show and did an awesome job!
Carissa is in her sophomore year at Berklee College of Music and is majoring in vocal performance. On March 11, 2009, she received the prestigious Berklee College of Music "Voice Department Achievement Award".
