hello, Bob here.
a word about this whole myspace thing.
those of you who know me will no doubt note that I have, on occasion, made a disparaging remark in regard to myspace. Some will even recall that I have a general nausea reagrding the whole thing. Well, when you hire competent people, they do competent things, and lo and behold, Marcus has gone ahead and finally made the studio a myspace.
However, now that I'm here, I guess I'm here. But do yourself a favor: email me. Don't just use the myspace comments. I'm not even notified when we get them, so it could be weeks before your lifeless body is discovered. um, wait, that's the wrong saying. You know what I mean.
The new studio site is a couple of days away from being finished. Please head over there when it's appropriate because there will be all manner of wonderful things on there. (especially if you think photos of 26 snare drums are wonderful.)
That having been said...
Welcome to the myspace home of Flying Blanket Recording and producer/engineer Bob Hoag. The studio is a two-room facility located in Mesa, Arizona (a suburb of Phoenix). We specialize in all-analog recording and mixing, but both rooms are also equipped with Pro Tools HD 3 Accel. It doesn't sound as good as the tape but hey, you can slum it if you want to.
We have some of the best vintage gear you can get - and we don't only have toys for the kids behind the glass. We're proud of our collection of vintage guitars, basses, amps, keyboards, and drums, as well as a bevy of other weird instruments.
This myspace page is for informational purposes. If you want to talk with us, please visit our WEBSITE . The website also has a lot more cool pictures and hidden treasures. you know, music and all that.
Our studio is located in the heart of Mesa's historic district, in a converted 3500-sq ft house, built in 1947. We have two lounges, a full eat-in kitchen with all the necessary appliances, laundry and shower facilities, as well as accommodations for out-of-town bands.
Studio A is fully equipped with a 1978 Neve Custom BBC Music Console (basically a custom 8078), a 10-channel Neve BCM-10 sidecar, Studer 800 2" 24-track analogue tape machine, and an Ampex ATR-102 1/2" mixdown tape machine, as well as a nice collection of vintage and modern outboard gear, as well as Pro Tools HD3 Accel which is configured to make flying between tape and PT easy. (you know, if you feel you have to go and do that.) There are three live rooms for Studio A - a large one (Huerta Room) one with 25' ceilings and vintage oak floors, a medium one (Rincon Room) with 15' ceilings with vintage oak floors, and a smaller, dead isolation hallway.
Studio B is fully equipped with a late 70s, hand-wired Amek 2500 48-channel console, Studer 800, Pro Tools HD3 Accel, and another big pile of great vinatge and new outboard gear. The live room, while not too big, still boasts vintage oak floors and was designed to sound like a much larger room. We think it sounds pretty good!
All rooms are equipped with at least one photo of Robert Mitchum. Somewhere.
Thanks for taking the time to check us out.
