About Me
Hi, My name is Kathy and I live in the greater Chicago area. I'm a pet lover, a Capricorn (although I'm more inclined toward Chinese astrology where I'm a monkey), and a writer and public relations consultant. But this page is NOT about me! It's dedicated to the legendary 1973 teen publication, Star Magazine.Despite the fact that only five issues were every circulated (a sixth issue was scratched), the teen tabloid became a pop culture phenomenon. During its short reign as the hippest read on the newsstands, the magazine managed to create a frenzy among young teenage girls who were hungry for more grownup adventures involving boys, sexy (some might say sleazy) fashions, and fantasy rendezvouses with rock stars. But perhaps most compelling of all, is how Star Magazine transformed a group of virtually unknown eccentrics into cultural icons...Eccentrics like Rodney Bingenheimer, Sable Starr, Lori Mattix, and Queenie! So profound was Star’s effect, that its demise left its young readership feeling displaced and clambering for more. But thanks to the advent of modern technology, Star is back.We have launched STARGROUPIEMAGAZINE.NET , a full service Star Magazine community complete with a multi-topic message board, a live chat room, reviews of each major article in this quarter featured issue (June), the full text of those articles, current news stories, interviews with some of the major players of the day, a photo gallery, and a page dedicated to buying, selling, or swapping Star Magazines. We’re very proud of our online community, and we hope you’ll visit us often. My friend Karen (myspace.com/rodneysenglishdiscogirl) felt that Star also deserved its own MySpace page. I agreed, so here it is. All the stats listed are those of the publication. It was first published in Los Angeles in February of '73 which would make it 34 years old, and well...you get it. Oh by the way, Star is the swinger, not me. (LOL)Be sure to click the magazine photo for Star's pics.
