About Me
Arthur Dutra is a composer/lyricist/writer/instrumentalist born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As a vibist, drummer, and percussionist, he has collaborated with Roberto Menescal, Zezé Motta, Lenine, Zé Nogueira Quinteto, Victor Biglione, Mário Adnet, José Lourenço, Marisa Gatta Mansa, Lucina, Marcelo Martins, Leila Maria, and Forró in the Dark, among many others. In 1998, he recorded - along with bass player Marcos Paiva - his first solo album, intitled "Projeto Timbatu", with guests such as Marco Pereira, Nelson Faria, Quarteto Maogani, Victor Biglione, Mauro Senise and Marcelo Martins. After completing studies at PontifÃcia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), in 2001, Dutra relocated to New York City in order to study vibraphone at the City University of New York. He studied with Mike Mainieri, Mike Hollober, Scott Reeves, Daniel Carillo, John Patitucci, and Stephen Jablonsky, and quickly became an in-demand sideman, complementing some players in the New York Area. After graduating, in 2005, Dutra resumed performing with his trio in clubs such as The Cornelia Street Cafe and, an year later, moved back to Rio de Janeiro.
