Brugal was founded in 1888 in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic and currently produces Brugal Blanco, a mellow and clear white rum; Brugal Carta Dorada (Gold Label); Brugal Añejo, which is one of the world's best aged rums and the ultra-premium Siglo de Oro. The Chicago-based Beverage Testing Institute gave Brugal Añejo a score of 94. It also gave an 86 to Brugal White Label, calling it a "'best buyâ€Today, Brugal has become the world’s third largest producer of rum and the largest producer of traditionally made rum, aged in oak barrels onsite in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. In 2002 , Brugal produced 4.3 million 24-bottle cases of rum and it currently produces 75,000 liters of rum every 24 hours.
