About Me
Hi! My name is Holly, and the most important things in my life are Animals and Art. Animals, especially my pets, are probably the single biggest contributing factor to my happiness in life. Remember: Always be kind to animals, morning noon and night, for animals have feelings too, and furthermore, they bite! ;-) Seriously, though, I probably love animals more than I love the human animal, and that's a fact.I love to read, I love to paint, I love to go to films, theater, and opera, as well as concerts. I have been trained in classical piano since I was five years old, and I also compose, as well as all kinds of performances onstage. I'm a fairly philosophical type, and spend a lot of time thinking about what, exactly, is going on in this thing called, "life," and how to best invest the time I have here. Art and appreciation of Art (of all kinds) seems to be a good way to pass the time, to me. I have made a lifelong study of Musical Theater, its history and roots in opera and burlesque/vaudeville, through the most cutting edge musicals. Although theatrical music is my favorite, I love all kinds of music, as long as the song is written and performed well.Back to ANIMALS. I grew up in a very peaceful place, on top of a hill, with a lot of wildlife. I love to visit Sea World, Birch Aquarium, the Zoo, and the Wild Animal Park. I do all the "close encounter" stuff, like swimming with dolphins, and taking a "photo safari" where you get to feed giraffes, rhinos, and the like. I have some friends who live in my general area, and they keep elephants. (They give the elephants ~everything~ they need; they love them dearly.) So I have some elephant pals. Two of them, Dixie and Rosie, appear in the film, "Evan Almighty."At home, I don't have as many animals as I would like, but I have as many as I can care for. Two elderly girl dogs, Vela and Pee Wee [RIP Pee Wee, 01-09-09], one young male dog, Devo, a male kitty named Darwin, and my beloved young little boy rat, Gus. [RIP Gus 11-20-08] (Since I first wrote this, we have gotten Gus a baby brother, named Buscemi. Also in the pictures are the first rat in the family, "Gregor Samsa: The Love Rat." He is no longer with us, but his memory lives on forever!) If you appreciate intelligence in a pet, then a rat is for you! I can't speak highly enough of them. My little darlings.I really can't think of any animal that I don't like, off the top of my head. We feed the wildlife around here, and have a beautiful adult red fox, as well as a hugely fat racoon named Orson. Once, I "tamed" a baby skunk, by feeding him cat food in exchange for his friendship. I named him Sir Stinky, although he never even raised his tail to me.[UPDATE:] On Nov. 20, 2008. my beloved Big Boy rat, Gus, passed away. On Nov. 24, 2008, I brought two new baby boy rats into the family: "Jules" Julius Winnfield Caesar, and "Vince" Vincent Vega. You will find pictures, blogs, and other information on all pets on this site. On Jan. 1 '09, Pee Wee passed away.[UPDATE:] On March 3, 2009, I brought two more baby ratties into our lives. They are brothers, and share a birthday with Boo - Jan. 1st! Their names are Octavian "Tavy" Caesar, and Maüs. Everyone just falls in love with them, which is what happened to me, which is how they came to be a part of the family![UPDATE:] On the morning of Friday, March 13, Boo (Buscemi) succumbed to illness related to old age. RIP, my "Little Bother!"
