About Me

King-Kill/33º coalesced in the spring of 1990 when instrument maker/Perimeter Records head, Chris Swartz (on drums) joined with Keith Lee (guitar) & Mitchell Foy (Vocals) from Perimeter artists Man’s ... Leaving the art gallery world behind (to prove it Donna Smith from Vomitorium Emporium asked to play bass), King-Kill/33º was part of an early 90s rock nova catalyzed by Dirt with other groups like the Go-Devils, Snatch, Magic Bone and Bad Egg Salad also shining the light. King-Kill/33º stood out from the other groups by employing multimedia (films, slides) at their live show run by Terry Williams (hence the name Terryvision). King-Kill/33º played on until Chris Swartz left in spring 1991. The only official release with Chris was one song on a cassette compilation put out by Furies Studios called Strange Bedfellows. Fletcher Liegerot replaced Chris in the fall of 1991 and King-Kill/33º appeared on a compilation put out by Andrew Pierce called 10” of Slack. The band self-released its first 7-inch in the spring of 1992; later that year, California based Vinyl Communications liked what they heard & released a second 7-inch. The endpoint came in spring 1993 when Fletcher quit and the band decided to call it a day. They played a memorable final show on the 50th anniversary of Albert Hoffman’s discovery of LSD at The Highlander, which had just started booking bands. A semi-reunion performance was given in spring 2001 featuring founding members Foy and Lee. Perimeter Records/Outer Loop artist Doug Hughes was on drums while local veteran Laurie G-Force played bass in Donna’s stead. Currently Lee is lending his skills on bass to Tenth To The Moon.King-Kill/33º fun facts:Their name came from the esoteric essay by James Shelby Downard that appeared in Apocalypse Culture (Feral House). The band received mention in the forward to the book's sequel.Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids were booked as an opening act for KK33 in summer of 1992 at the Clermont Lounge before canceling.Fletcher played in Cat Power’s first line up.Donna went to Jerry Falwell’s church as a child. Recordings of a Falwell rant about the Kennedys can be heard on the live compilation given away at the band’s final gig.Even though Chris did not play at the semi-reunion in 2001, the drums he played in the original incarnation of the band were used.Members of King-Kill/33º continued:Lee: Liar’s Club, his multifaceted project w/ wife Lynn, released a CD around the turn of the century. He currently plays w/ Renee Nelson in Envie.Swartz: Released mucho electronic music under his own name. Has contributed to Pineal Ventana & Liar’s Club and currently plays in Broken Symmetry.Smith & Swartz played in an electronica project called Eta Carinea that got a good bit of local Atlanta airplay in the late 90s.Smith: Played with Keith in Liar’s Club & sang back up for local act the Hookers. Currently in Naples, FL playing keyboards and singing with the commercial rock band Wonderful Johnson.Liegerot: Played in several other bands (and can heard on Magic Bone’s Rodents as Gifts) before dropping out of music for several years. Lives in New York & plays drums for Brother Reverend.Foy: Pineal Ventana is probably the best-known post- King-Kill/33º outfit. From 1994 until after the turn of the century, PV shocked & amazed. They released six CDs & other recording formats. Mitch’s current project, along with Hughes, is Tenth To The Moon.Hughes: Documented Pineal Ventana via his Solar Wind studio. Recorded and played drums for Liar’s Club. Currently plays in Broken Symmetry and Tenth To The Moon.G-Force: Has played in many bands over the past several years, including Liar’s Club. Currently with Vietnam.
