Roi Raz is a multi-faceted guitarist and composer. His playing and writing are influenced by jazz, classical music and eastern and middle- eastern styles. Roi has played with various ensembles of world music and jazz in the Boston area, including the “Balmus Ensemble†with flutist Nicola Radan, The Tami Machnai Ensemble, and accordionist Jeremiah mcLane, as well as leading his own groups with “Bustan Abraham†flutist, Amir Milstein. His debut album as soloist, “Between the Suns†(Sachimay, 2003) portrays an inner journey, seasoned with diverge musical flavors and some Sufi and biblical poetry. Shem-Tov Levy, and formed his own group, “Kedma-Yama†who recently uplifted audiences at the International Red Sea Jazz Festival. He is currently working with singer Yahly Toren on new music for Jewish prayers and psalms, and with saxophonist Abate Brihon, among many other projects.
Roi Raz is a graduate of the New England Conservatory masters program in Boston and the Rubin Academy in Jerusalem. He studied with John Abercrombie, Gene Bertoncini, Ran Blake and others.Selected Discography:
