Combating Anti Social behaviour through the creative use of film and Multi mediaLyrical Wordz, is a film production company specialising in producing thought provoking content on and around issues which deal with Knife/gun crime, bullying and other anti social behaviour. Our aim is to produce programmes and projects, which work as discussion pieces and/or deterrents for these issues. As most children are very much in tune with the visual medium of television, we feel that film and Multi media, offers us a greater opportunity to reach them.
We work alongside youth workers, teachers, community leaders to come up with scripts, treatments and storyboards, which are pertinent to that school, youth centre or community group. The programmes we make will deliver a message in a street savvy language, which it’s audience, understands and respects. We will be producing programmes for children and young adults aged between 8 years & 21 years old. The films are intended to be used as a preventative measure as well as influencing those who may have already offended.Because the involvement of the children is both in front and behind the camera, they also learn valuable skills in the production and post production of our projects. These skills include: camera operator scriptwriting, storyboarding, casting, location scouting, directing, sound recording, lighting, acting and production planning.Established in December 2005, Lyrical Wordz has to date produced 5 short films which tackles the issues surrounding knife and gun crime among young people. The films are designed to be used as tools to assist teachers and youth workers in their efforts to challenge anti social behaviour.The fear of gun and knife crime has risen and continues to rise. This fear amongst those aged 11- 25 appears to be the main motivation for young people arming themselves with weapons for protection.Lyrical Wordz proposes to influence attitudes and the behaviour of young people though the creative use of film, both in front and behind the camera.Poetry projects
Using the popular styles of lyrical delivery (rap/spoken word), Lyrical Wordz will produce short films. The films will be used as tools for those who work with young people in schools and youth projects, with the aim of assisting their efforts in challenging anti-social behaviour. Future projects will see some of the films distributed using new media; Internet, mobile phones in an attempt to access the target audience through viral marketing.Documentaries, social commentary
Working with schools, YIP’s YOT’s and youth centres we can produce bespoke films and documentaries about issues relevant to your organisation. We are currently working on a six part Documentary series Dealing with knife and gun crime on the streets of London.
We have teamed up with Tracey Camberbatch, the mother of Kiyan Prince, to produce this series. Through the series, Tracey will take to the streets, visiting youth clubs, churches of all different faiths, the Metropolitan police, Inner city schools and every other organisation involved in the prevention of knife crime, seeking answers to one simple question, What killed her son, Kiyan Prince.Lyrical Wordz exists to remind, inform, inspire and encourage young people across the community that they always have a choice and that they can always find the strength and courage to make choices which will not negatively impact themselves, their families and or other members of the community.To date, all of our work has been produced by sheer force of will ALONE!
