The Hoi Polloi

About Me

Straight out of West London’s Notting Hill comes a fresh and explosive band in the form of The Hoi Polloi. The sound they have created blends a wide range of pop and underground music from Pete Tosh to Eurythmics and Shy FX to Cobain resulting in a truly innovative experience in sound. The Hoi Polloi consists of House and Garage duo Dom Perignon & Dynamite (Aaron Hyatt and Aizi Robinson, Bassist and drummer.) who are responsible for Nationwide Hits; ‘Got Myself Together’ and ‘Hungry Tiger’ at the turn of the Millennium. Two magnetic lead vocalists Julian Bicknell and Jerome Gayle topped with the captivating guitars of Rob Bonus B.From the first gig to the last The Hoi Polloi have played some of the best venues on London’s gig circuit and have built up a strong and most definitely madcap fan base the oldschool way.THP recently trounced all competition in an XFM Unsigned battle of the bands when their single ‘I Hope I Never See You Sober Again’ took 54% of all votes to win by a country mile. As well as finding The Hoi Polloi on worldwide compilations and radio stations across the country. THP recently spent time recording at SARM WEST studios (Grove) and are now working out of a picturesque location out in the sticks.----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------The Hoi Polloi- 'Very interesting dark electro indie, a good fusion of stripped down grime beats with a less frenetic Dizzee Rascal mic style. Erratic 80s off kilter keyboards touch on an improvisational scat jazz rhythmn with tempo changes that move things in a computer dub direction…plenty of reggae rhythmns and grime beats. Much more depth and intelligence than Klaxons and other contemporaries of that ilk. Loving it.'-BugBear Promotions-------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------Carli ng Academy is a great venue despite your feet sticking to the floor the whole time. But with sticky floors aside, this place is all about the music.Shying away from the usual Sunday roast we decided to make our way to the Academy. Having reached there early we managed to soak in a few bands, but it was the raw energy of the Hoi Polloi, headliners of the night, that really stood out for us.With a hybrid of original concepts and eclectic tastes these guys have something for everyone. Thriving on a live setup and dodging the monotony of indie churns, their music brought out a great buzz and vibe. This group was intriguing.Without a doubt, the Hoi Polloi are a stand alone band. Their influences range from the urban scene, to electronic and of course a touch of rock. After their first song technical glitches did ensue, which the comfortable frontman took in his stride and didn’t appear to be sweating bullets over. Like the premise to a movie, you never know what anybody is like until you put them under pressure, and in this context these guys handled their sound problems, sustained their charisma and got on with the show.Dancing and impressed - what better praise can you give at a concert? I wonder what the future has in store for these guys, because it’s been a long time since an English band has mastered such a amalgamated sound. So given that Hoi Polloi have only been together for a short while, their future will no doubt be turning ears if not heads..."-myvillage.com
