About Me

They call me pretty Sparky. I lived in Newcastle until my death in 1962. My stuffed remains are on show at the Hancock Museum in Newcastle, where curious visitors can also listen to examples of my chattering.I had a repertoire of 8 nursery rhymes,360 phrases, and a vocabulary of over 550 words. My talking and chattering came to prominence in 1958 when I beat off 2,768 entrants to win a BBC talking bird competition. I became a national celebrity and went on to make a record that sold 20,000 copies. Musicians/Producers of music: Yeer invited te remix Sparky Williams leik. (see Sparky Williams Remix Project in blog above for details)
