K*CD004 - ALAK "Clarinettis Qoonotations: Too Many Notes" fucking preternatural and the golden weave of g-nashing teeth
"Clarinettis Qoonotations: Too Many Notes." fucking preternatural and golden weave of g-nashing teeth, is the long awaited new full-length release from California-based musician Jocelyn Noir's ALAK (formerly Alas, alak, Alaska!).
Noir's album is permeated by a strange Gothic air. A heavy, hanging dark smoke that twists and turns itself into animated baroque swirls, occasionally clearing to reveal a blindingly clear light.
This is a special record.

NEW DISC OUT NOW!
K*CD002 - Champagne Diamond/The Brilliant Light
K*CD002 comes courtesy of Nina Canell & Robin Watkins in the form of a 2-disc CD album. Working under many different names across different releases and within the same record means you could know them already as The New Heat, Obscured by Light, Luftkluster, Luftfluks, or in this case, Champagne Diamond/The Brilliant Light.
This is the first time their material will be available on CD, after two vinyl-only releases on Oscillatone and most recently, the vinyl version of this release on CAFF/FLICK.
Across the delicate and lovingly produced album, bittersweet boy-girl vocals interweave with found sounds, minimal guitar lines, and numerous bits of exotic instrumentation to devastating effect.
The reverse of the release sports a list of soundmaking devices that reads like the components of some kind of incantory ritual, spanning from the traditional - acoustic guitar, Chinese hand-drum - to the mysteriously ambiguous - water, BKC bicycle - and the specifically strange - Marsona Sleep Machine, Mr Riyaz Tabla Machine.
Well, the spell seems to have worked, leaving traces of strange magic all over this intimate and singular release.

A collaborative/split release with Kaleidoscope & Cavern , "Mountain Tan Commercials" comes ahead of Arch M's 12" vinyl release "Moon-Tan", due soon on the Cavern label.Over 7 gorgeous tracks, concise electric guitar figures gleam with soft distortion and a luscious reverb. Clattering percussion falls around with unrestrained urgency, and a precision that belies it's apparent spontenaiety. Melodies - like old friends fondly remembered - swim in your head long after the ecstatic nine minutes is over.

17 tracks of gentle instrumentals peppered with simple electronics, found sound and various delicate instrumentation from the schoolroom sounds of nylon strung guitar, zither and glockenspiel to the Arabic Rebab. The whole record has the feel of a long lost tape, with it's subtle pitch modulations and hazy production evoking a series of blurry memories, recalled through the hiss and sun-bleached weathering of time.
