About Me

I really like to gross out my kid. You know you've got mad skills when you can gross out a six year old.
I'm fond of the idea that I have a good brain and strong convictions. I luuuuuurv to read. And laugh. I love to read stuff that makes me laugh (David Sedaris!). enjoy learning, too, so I pick up the occasional non-fiction book so I can watch Jeopardy and still respect myself in the morning.

I'm a bit of a sappy sod.

My favorite Beatle is George.

My Interests

I love to laugh. I like books, carpet picnics, Karaoke, Scrabble, Art, Nerds (the candy and the people), Peeps (again--the candy and the people) live music, ugly and/or weird paintings, corn, Q*Bert, polka dots, Sharpies, shoes (particularly Converse & Docs), blue nail polish, shiny things, stripes, freshly sharpened pencils, mechanical pencils (specifically the Bic Clic Master with .5mm lead), ugly socks, H&M, accordions, tattoos, skulls, skull tattoos, people with a killer sense of humor and taking pictures of random stuff...and taking pictures of my shoes when I'm bored in class.

I have an aversion to grammatical errors (not included in this category are deliberate, creative uses of orthography), rude bastards, ignorant bastards, duplicitous bastards, cowards, liars and creamed corn.

I'd like to meet:

Mad crazy bitches.

Oh, and writers, cerebral people who don't take themselves too seriously, etc.

Geeks and nerds and assorted social misfits. Oh my!

Music:

I love oldies and classic rock, but I also like discovering new music!

Movies:

I like movies. My favorites are Lost In Translation, Sound of Music, The Princess Bride, High Fidelity, The Sandlot, About a Boy, Anne of Green Gables, Steel Magnolias, To Kill a Mockingbird, Vice Versa, and...
I heart John Cusak & Steve Buscemi.

Television:

I'm not a big watcher of television, but I like stuff with humor, brains, or both. The Colbert Report, The Daily Show, Frasier, and just because Sam Waterson is awesome and all the Assistant D.A.'s look like models, Law & Order.
I enjoy a good documentary. Especially about history, or the ones that question the accepted theories on religion.

Heroes:

Mi Mamá
My big sister, Sara.

So, I've been a bit of a zombie since Thursday, when I found out my lovely dear friend Katy (actually, her name is Keturah) passed away.  She was an incredible woman; brilliant, kind and always t...

This woman is really inspiring...

Viola Vaughn is single-handedly improving the lives of African girls by helping them get through their education.   It's sad that it's the girls that have to stay home to help with the young...

This lovely Harrier Hound is Cedar Louise Flynn.  She was stolen out of her home (upstairs from me) in Berwyn on Saturday afternoon at around 3 p.m.  Cedar is a 4-5 year old spayed female ...

This Anne person is NOT my friend

I’ve gotten a few messages from my friends on MySpace, telling me that some girl named "Anne" has contacted them, attempted to befriend them, and ends up saying some disparaging bullshit about m...

Hurrah! Morrissey receives a public apology from magazine

Morrissey, one of my favorite musicians ever, had apparently been accused of being a "racist" and a "hypocrite" by Word Magazine.  The "journalist" that took Morrisseys words (on immigration) and...

So I froze my ass off at the Freeze in Millenium Park

There are so many pointless things in life, and this is one of them.  Wonderfully so. So, last night, my bff Aimee and I froze our asses off in Millenium Park so we could stand perfectly...

Clarifying "Love and Literary Taste" Post

I knew that MySpace was teeming with deviants, but this is ridiculous. The last sentence in my last post: "....who wants to compare perversions?" was not an invitation for porn and amoral proposals.&n...

Love and Literary Taste

An article in the Sunday Book Review of the NYT really touched a bit of a nerve for me: It was about the connection between love and literary tastes. One hates to think of themselves as shallow, (beca...
