Sketchbook in hand, I am interested broadly in the human condition and responding to my subject in the environment where I find it. My drawings have an immediacy and honesty and are more about gesture, form and energy than arriving at a highly finished product. They range in scale from small sketches to large mixed media works on paper including an album cover for the critically acclaimed duo Robert Mitchell and Omar Puente. Over the years I have gone beyond nudes and portraiture via live music to animals, cityscapes including Venice and London, to the Thames at night. Most of my paintings have been developed from a single pencil or charcoal study and draw on my memory of that moment and a love of colour and rhythm.
