About Me

Welcome! My name is Jennifer Hamady and I'm a voice coach, author and singer based in New York City. Over the years, I've been fortunate to enjoy an exciting and varied career in the music business. As a singer, I've worked with Stevie Wonder, Patti LaBelle, Def Leppard, Christina Aguilera, Wyclef Jean, Lee Ann Womack, Smokey Robinson, Jessica Simpson, Delta Goodrem, Babyface, Kid Rock and Usher on tour, in the studio and on television. In 2007, I had the awesome experience of being a lead singer in Cirque du Soleil's DELIRIUM, performing for over 1 million people in 16 countries.
While I love to sing, my true passion is helping others discover and develop their best voices. For over ten years, I’ve been working with singers and actors to release mental and vocal tensions, establish confidence and vocal strength, and embrace personal and musical optimism and wonder. I also work with non-musicians to help them discover and share their best selves with their loved ones and communities. You can learn more about my practice, approach and clients- as well as how we might work and learn together- by visiting my website, www.jenniferhamady.com. My experience, methods and ideas have also been captured in my new book "The Art of Singing: Discovering and Developing Your True Voice", which publisher Hal Leonard will be releasing next month. (www.theartofsinging.com).
"The Mother Teresa of Voice Liberation"
- Ben E., singer/songwriter, Colorado
"I have found my voice with Jennifer; a natural, healthy voice that was buried under years of bad habits, muscle tension, faulty technique, unhelpful definitions of singing, and negative experiences."
- Vivian W., performance artist, New York
"She's written the singer's version of 'The Secret'. Oprah would be proud!"
- Clair R., singer/songwriter, New York
"Jennifer has worked with me to begin my entrance into freedom not just as a musician, artist and singer but as a person, spirit and soul."
- Lia M., Berklee College of Music
"The Eloise Ristad of our time.”
- Mike S., Master Class participant, Monterrey, Mexico
"I can honestly say that I learned more from Jennifer in two weeks than from anyone else in my career as a singer and performer. I consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with her."
- Chad Oliver, singer, Cirque du Soleil
"I'd never seen a force of joy, compassion, sharp-mindedness, grace, experience and guts so captivating until I met Jennifer..."
- Jim F., singer/songwriter, Paris, France
"Working with Jennifer has been such a blessing... she opened up my voice in so many ways and taught me so many incredible techniques. I not only had fun working with her, but my voice is stronger and I am by far a much better singer and speaker. Thank you, Jennifer!"
- MacKenzie W., television actor, Los Angeles
“Within the first coaching with Ms. Hamady, I developed a more comfortable approach to singing that sounded much closer to my natural voice that I unconsciously use every day in conversation. After a performance less than a week later heard by strangers and friends alike, I received consistent observations attesting to my increased ‘resonance’ and overall expression.”
- Mike B., Julliard School of Music
“An incredible, beautiful and long-needed force to be reckoned with in the realm of vocal coaching and teaching.”
- Kate F., Broadway performer, New York
"Jennifer embodies every principle that she teaches, and her example is inspirational."
- Melissa G., recording artist, New York
"Jennifer's thorough knowledge of the voice coupled with her unique understanding of how to best communicate with singers has made her a rare gem in the coaching field."
- John Briggs, Vice President, ASCAP
"A one in a million find... we are talking about a brilliant and truly special person"
- Dr. James Fallon, Univ. of California, Irvine
"Fly, run or swim to wherever this woman is... you will not regret it!"
- Rachel K, recording artist, Nashville

Lunch with Myra

This past weekend, I had lunch in Washington, DC with my voice teacher from college, Myra Tate.  Much more than a voice teacher, Myra helped me- after two years of rigid, top-down conservatory trainin...

Safety and Bravery

Recently, a client emailed over some songs for me to hear prior to our first meeting. They were good... other than some standard tensions (easily released), there was nothing in his voice that was or ...

Fear, Joy, (performing?) Anger and Love

One of the greatest challenges for my clients- and I'd say most singers and performers- is managing stage fright. To further complicate things, this 'skill' is entirely separate from the understanding...

learning to sing

There are hundreds if not thousands of books about the 'best' approach to learning to sing. I've just written my own thoughts on the subject, and anticipate a bit of a backlash when the book comes out...

I had a wonderful conversation with a client the other day about generosity- both the ability to be generous, and to be able to do so selflessly, with no thought to receiving something in return; with...

Pre-nodules, acid reflux & vocal care

Recently, I've been getting emails about the best way to care for pre-nodules and other vocal pathology issues. Obviously, the best first step is to go to an Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose and Throat Doc...
