The Low Tides

About Me

Obscured by both time and misplaced recordings, not a lot is known of infamous surf band 'The Low Tides'. One can only assume that, like most studio bands of the early surf boom, they formed, left one or two jems in the form of rare and grainy studio takes, and disappeared into history...However, some concrete facts about The Low Tides are known, thanks to the now out of print 7" single 'Beach Blanket Bongo' (featuring the classic 'Do The Goofy Foot' B Side). Beachside Bliss Recordings in-house guitarist Johnny 'Tone' Timmins, brought in friend and drummer Juan 'Ritmo' Sanchez to record the original take of 'Beach Blanket...', recruiting passer-by Wilbur 'Boy' Williams to fill in on bass. The single peaked at number 54 on the national charts, before the band was no more.It seemed like their fate was sealed. Until, of course, that fabled single was re-discovered by modern day surf junkies The Damned Evangelist, and brought back into the spotlight. Following the huge resurgence in popularity of the surf genre, the Low Tides have taken to playing the odd, secret show here and there, and those lucky enough to stumble upon these surf greats have all agreed on one thing: no matter how they played, they always had a superb fashion sense.
