The Young Ages were formed in 1966 by a bunch of guys from North Mecklenburg High School. They were one of the first psychedelic bands in the Charlotte area. In 1968, the Viet Nam draft called Mike and Dickie to war. The guys went their individual ways for 40 years. In 2006, they got back together and are playing again to a lot of the fans that followed them back in the day.

Band Members: The Young Ages are, Mark Myers-vocals, Rusty Barkley/Johnnie Pinyan-lead guitar and vocal, Johnnie Barkley-rhythm guitar-vocal, Ronnie Phillips-drums, Dickie Carrigan-rhythm guitar-vocal, Mike Raper-bass guitar-vocal and Bob-keyboards. When we play, it is an honor to share the stage with a second generation of players, John Pinyan Jr. and Rusty's son, John. A couple of rising stars!

Here are some videos of our first performance at The Double Door, with special guest, Pat Walters. At this time, we had only rehearsed 5 times. The magic is still there after 40 years apart.

Abba, with Pat Walters. Abba was written by Jim Charles, lead singer for The Abbadons in 1966. Bob played keyboards with them prior to joining The Young Ages. Recorded in 1968, by Pat's band, The Paragons. A copy of this record recently sold on ebay for over $1000.

Light My Fire

The Satelliters performing Abba. Band is from Germany. Apparently Abba has a cult following in Europe. Go to my friends and click on Sixties Community for another version of Abba, by The Cynics, a band from Pittsburgh. Also recorded by The Woggles from Atlanta.
Doobie Brothers-I Cheat The Hangman
If you've never had the pleasure of hearing a theater pipe organ, here are a couple of awesome examples. Turn up the sound and the bass and enjoy! Jelani Eddington & Rob Richards at Pasadena Civic Auditorium playing "Slaughter On Tenth Ave". This song was also covered by The Ventures.

Why????

I have been inspired by many musicians. There are a lot of them that will not accept bands as friends on Myspace. What's up with this? I merely want to pay homage to them for playing a part in who I a...
